Rhododendron cleared and controlled now for 3 years at Peatlands Park and there are now hundreds of Alder Buckthorn saplings coming through! This is one of the sites designation features! @UlsterWildlife@daera_ni@theCANNproject#peatlandspark
I visited the Pool Woods Trail in Killarney National Park where @npwsBioData worked with @NCBI_sightloss to develop a wonderful sensory trail.
I found a well camouflaged frog and put him up safely off the path

We had some extra help with our fieldwork this week. The QUB MEng Hydrology class came along to learn about the hydrology of blanket bogs. Hopefully they have all dried off by now! @EPAResearchNews
Great to see much needed increase in funding for peatland conservation and restoration in #Budget2020. Our research will assist in quantifying the ecosystem services benefits of blanket bogs to water @EPAResearchNews
#Budget2020
€7m in funding to embark on an accelerated programme of peatlands restoration & conservation works. This programme will result in 1,800 hectares of restored peatland in 2020, & ultimately the storage of 28m tonnes of carbon.

Fantastic trip up Legnabrocky trail as part of the @IUCNpeat#peatconf19. Some really interesting discussions on habitat protection, management and restoration. Thanks to @SimonGray14 from @theCANNproject for leading along with Bobbie from @daera_ni and Sean from @macgeopark
QUBBES project members were delighted to attend the @IUCNpeat#peatconf19 dinner at Stormont. Looking forward to field trips today, including visits to Cuilcagh-Anierin Uplands and Garron Plateau, 2 of our project sites led by @niwnews and @theCANNproject. @EPAResearchNews
Really looking forward to the IUCN Peatland Programme Conference 2019 taking place in Belfast next week. QUBBES will be presenting posters and Dr Ray Flynn will be speaking about our research at the Garron Plateau SAC @EPAResearchNews https://t.co/ZJWeitD5UM

Difficult reading for our peatland habitats in particular, but some positive signs from restoration efforts. A lot more work required! @EPAResearchNews @npwsBioData @LIFEraisedbogs
The current status of protected habitats and species in Ireland has been published. We were delighted to contribute to this piece of work. Lots to be concerned about, but signs of improvement for some habitats and species. https://t.co/DHWjxqAEOt
This #IPCC report concerns #Ireland as #Peatland degradation is particularly relevant given their very high carbon storage and their sensitivity to changes in soils, hydrology and vegetation. Check out Chapter 4

Francis Mackin from QUBBES attended the @CarePeat conference this week. Great to see international collaboration and sharing of knowledge in peatland conservation and restoration. Looking forward to seeing the findings from this project over the next 3 years. @EPAResearchNews
The #CarePeat team at the Little Woolden Moss pilot site yesterday. We had a great start conference and look forward to work together in the near future. Thanks!
Spotted this little guy during some fieldwork at the Garron Plateau SAC. A Viviparous lizard, (Zootoca vivipara) very well camouflaged among the heather, but stood still long enough for a quick photo! @EPAResearchNews@niwnews@daera_ni
Spot the remnant of forests buried under #Donegal blanket #bogs and exposed after centuries of turf cutting; are they like sleeping dragons ready to resurface in warmer climes?
