I helped survey some land in Belize and Honduras for a hotel/resort developer with a local South African fixer a long time ago. The casual and almost lazy corruption in the govt made it pretty much uninvestable. Bribes of arbitrary size for every interaction and in the end someone can go in and change the deed to property for $200. I’d classify gang activity as sleepy and witnessed McAfee style drama involving dogs and jaguars etc. Belize is more chill than the insanity in Honduras, people generally very friendly. The mountains inland are rugged and beautiful. We went to a nature reserve with some drugged up tiny deer standing around drooling. Fun trip all in all
