@RoyalReporter@royalmusing @CrazyLadySJ @thelaurapoirot@sage1411 Pressing pause for now as I’m off on a royal fact finding mission in Berlin. Interested to ask questions about VR & PA’s eldest daughter’s role in Prussia/Germany after her marriage.
@RoyalReporter@royalmusing @CrazyLadySJ @thelaurapoirot@sage1411 Yes…and not from direct government taxation. The phrase tax payers money is my beef here, as it sounds as if Joe/Jane public are funding it through tax, which they are not.
@RoyalReporter@royalmusing @CrazyLadySJ @thelaurapoirot@sage1411 I understand the civil list no longer exists and was replaced by the SG, which brought all Head of State expenditure under one umbrella.
@RoyalReporter@royalmusing @CrazyLadySJ @thelaurapoirot@sage1411 I agree WRIII & MRI’s reign was a watershed moment in our government/state structure. The technicalities remain unchanged. The CE makes a massive contribution to the public purse, but the media are still using the pulse raising phrase tax payers money
@RoyalReporter@royalmusing @CrazyLadySJ @thelaurapoirot@sage1411 It is the Crown Estate’s money which is held by the Sovereign. The hereditary possessions have been voluntarily handed over via Act of Parliament at the beginning of ever reign since the 18th century when GRIII could no longer afford the cost of the Monarchy.
@RoyalReporter@royalmusing @CrazyLadySJ @thelaurapoirot@sage1411 So we agree the Sovereign Grant is an amount of money not gathered by direct government taxation levied on the general public, but by profit generated by the Crown Estate and voluntarily given to the Treasury? Albeit via the consolidated funds.
@RoyalReporter@royalmusing @CrazyLadySJ @thelaurapoirot@sage1411 The revenue/profit from the Crown Estate has been handed to the Treasury since the days of GRIII with a percentage being apportioned either via Civil list or now sovereign grant. Therefore funds raised by government taxation are not used.
@RoyalReporter@royalmusing @CrazyLadySJ @thelaurapoirot@sage1411 It’s funded by the sovereign grant via the Crown Estate’s voluntary contribution to the Treasury. The phrase tax payer suggested public funds, which is inaccurate.
