@SuperStableNews@AnathemaLex42@Forty1_0 From reading on the subject that seems to have been more because of the loss of livestock/crops and destruction of farm equipment that occurred during the war than because of the freeing of slaves
@SuperStableNews@AnathemaLex42@Forty1_0 Chattel slavery was not actually common for thousands of years. Slavery, yes, but not the kind we had here. And they clearly had the ability to know better considering the large abolitionist movement.
@SuperStableNews@AnathemaLex42@Forty1_0 I mean obviously there's other factors, it's an entire military of individuals each with their own reasons, but one of the primary reasons for many of them was a belief in white supremacy or economic concerns that are at best a few steps downstream of slavery (eg price of cotton)
@SuperStableNews@AnathemaLex42@Forty1_0 I was trying to do a comparison between how often slave(ry) appears in these documents vs words relating to your other listed reasons and even words related to trade are used in the context of slavery
@SuperStableNews@AnathemaLex42@Forty1_0 Interesting. What's also interesting is how much of a back seat all of those seem to take to the issue of slavery when you read the declaration of causes from the states that seceded.
@Oofwav3@Nnhhhgghhh@ionank Are you operating under the idea that no innocent civilians were bombed in the middle east? Or are you implying the middle eastern civilians don't matter? Because there's no way this reply made sense in your head if you were considering the civilians we killed.
@Seboumboy If your problem is that they're just making a female protagonist to put identity over story how can you make that critique before the game is even out? They could have cooked up a good story that necessitates her as the protagonist, we don't know yet.
@dogslovealex@TheGreatDXA@fl0w_t I'm close to pro-chsnging minds in the abstract because I'm pro changing minds to align with empirical data but since I try to stand by that myself then I'm not going to appreciate someone changing their mind to disagree with me because it means they're ignoring reality
@VVenerabilis@Distant_Warrior It's because in-universe light speed is slang for hyperspace travel, which is actually much faster. Sublight pretty much just means "slower than hyperspace" even if it's still faster than light speed.
I like Wolfe Glick a lot, but it is kinda sad for Arsal that everyone is focusing on Wolfe's performance just because he had a more interesting team when Arsal had to play his ass off to win with a team that had the 2 megas everyone was trying to counter.
@marbitozard_ Are games just things you look at? Is that where all the fun comes from for you? Personally I was having fun catching, training, and battling pokemon but if you enjoy the games by staring at the scenery then yeah this isn't the one for you.
