nobody's asking why apple would repeat a strategy that took the x itself years to normalize into a real seller
scarcity worked for the x because it eventually became normal. if the fold stays this scarce, that's not strategy, that's just the ceiling
iPhone Fold could repeat the iPhone X launch strategy.
According to Kuo, the foldable iPhone is expected to be announced alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, but pre-orders and sales may happen later due to limited initial supply.
Expect pre-orders in late October and the official launch in early November.
Apple is reportedly expecting around 7~8M foldable iPhone assembly shipments in 2H26, with only 500K~1M units assembled in Q3, compared to roughly 20~22M iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max units.
This would be similar to the iPhone X, which was announced in September 2017 but didn’t go on sale until November due to production constraints.
