This fading ancient tradition of cormorant fishing, which has a history of 1,300 years, was a skill that Lao Huang learned as a child.
By the time the photo was taken, cormorant fishing had become more of a passion-driven hobby for him than a means of making a living. At that time, he mainly relied on donations and devoted himself to caring for the cormorants.

Sadly, a trip to Yangshuo today will no longer bring you to him, as he passed away in 2023 at 90 years old.
