@GaryGrimtooth @KytorIndustries @samson7point1 They're definitely better from my own comparison. However the KB sticks and bowls work perfectly fine with the n64 gears so you don't have to throw those out if you still got some.

If the protector and the screen breaks then the protector will still keep the shards of both the screen and itself safely attached. They're just concerned about people not replacing it.

@KytorIndustries Just in case the pioneer branded drives shoot up in price, verbatim is also using pioneer drives in most of their (current) slimline range.
They also have an open firmware so things like MKVmaker will work for backups.
Sadly they can't rip PS3 discs.
