What the hell is happening to the Indian stock market?

How many times do you expect traders to rebuild their entire business?

> December 2020 – 50% leverage removed
> March 2021 – 75% leverage removed
>September 2021 – 100% leverage removed

We adapted.

Yes, leverage is a double-edged sword. But thousands of genuine traders with smaller capital were affected. Still, we adapted.

> September 2023 – Bank Nifty expiry was shifted from Thursday to Wednesday, while BSE launched Sensex weekly expiry on Friday. Suddenly, we had expiries almost every trading day.

Many traders, especially algo and 0-DTE traders, redesigned their entire systems.

We adapted.

> November 2024 – Weekly expiries of FinNifty, Bank Nifty and other indices were removed. Only Nifty and Sensex weekly expiries remained.

Again, thousands of traders had to change their strategies.

We adapted.

> February 2025 – Expiry-day margin benefit was removed.

STBT traders were hit badly.

We adapted.

> 1st September 2025 – Nifty expiry shifted from Thursday to Tuesday.

Again...

We adapted.

> Jane Street reportedly made billions of dollars from Indian markets over the years. Later, regulatory action was taken, and subsequently trading restrictions were lifted after payment of regulatory dues/settlement.

How exactly did all of this benefit Indian retailers?

Meanwhile...

- Option STT has increased massively over the last few years.
- Bid-ask spreads have widened.
- Slippage has increased.
- Global volatility has increased.
- Transaction costs keep rising.

We adapted to everything.

And now...

Closing Auction Session (CAS).

Seriously?

Every few months there's another structural change.

Every few months traders are forced to rebuild their systems.

Every few months liquidity takes another hit.

You say these changes are for retail investor protection.

Then please show us the data.

Can you show even one report proving that retail trading losses have actually reduced because of all these interventions?

If not, then what exactly are these constant changes achieving?

Instead of making markets more efficient, you're making trading more expensive, more complicated, and pushing serious traders towards crypto and international markets.

As a full-time trader, my inner soul genuinely cries today seeing the direction our markets are heading.

We survived leverage removal.

We survived daily expiries.

We survived removal of daily expiries.

We survived expiry changes.

We survived removal of expiry margin benefits.

We survived higher STT.

We survived wider spreads and slippage.

Now we are expected to survive CAS as well?

Enough is enough.

I request SEBI and the exchanges to reconsider this rule.

Before implementing such major structural changes, consult the trading community. There should be proper communication, public discussion, and representation from active traders.

I also request every trader to raise their voice through the proper channels. If you genuinely believe these changes are hurting market participants, please send your feedback or complaint to SEBI through its official grievance mechanism. And if anyone from the industry has a direct channel to the exchanges or regulators, please help convey the concerns of the trading community.

ನಾನು ದಿಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಹೋದಾಗಲೆಲ್ಲ ಖಾನ್ ಮಾರ್ಕೆಟ್ ನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ‘ಬಹರಿಸನ್ಸ್’ ಪುಸ್ತಕದ ಅಂಗಡಿಗೆ ತಪ್ಪದೇ ಹೋಗುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಲು ಎರಡು ಕಾರಣಗಳಿವೆ. ಮೊದಲನೆಯದು, ತೀರಾ ಲೇಟೆಸ್ಟ್ ಆದ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂದಿರುತ್ತವೆ ಮತ್ತು ಎರಡನೆಯದು, ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾರಾದರೂ ಲೇಖಕರು, ಪರಿಚಿತ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳು ಸಿಗುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ನಾನು ನಿನ್ನೆ ಬೆಳಗ್ಗೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಹೋದಾಗ, ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿಯನ್ನು ಹೊರತುಪಡಿಸಿದರೆ, ಪ್ರಾಯಶಃ ನಾನೊಬ್ಬನೇ ಇದ್ದೆ. ಐದಾರು ಜನ ಒಮ್ಮೆಗೆ ಬಂದರೆ ಅಂಗಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಲಿಡಲು ಜಾಗವಿರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಅಷ್ಟು ಸಣ್ಣ ಜಾಗ. ಎಲ್ಲೆಡೆ ಪುಸ್ತಕ. ನಾನು ನನ್ನ ಪಾಡಿಗೆ ಪುಸ್ತಕದೊಳಗೆ ಮುಳುಗಿ ಹೋಗಿದ್ದೆ. ಆಗ ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಬಿಳಿ ಜುಬ್ಬಾ-ಪೈಜಾಮ ಧರಿಸಿದ ನೀಳಕಾಯದ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ, ಸಹಾಯಕರ ನೆರವಿನೊಂದಿಗೆ ನಿಧಾನವಾಗಿ ಅಂಗಡಿಯೊಳಗೆ ನಡೆದು ಬಂದರು. ತೀರಾ ಪರಿಚಿತವಾದ ಮುಖ ಅನಿಸಿತು. ನಾನು ಅವರನ್ನು ಆ ಹೊತ್ತಿಗೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿಸಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ.

ಹೌದು, ಒರಿಸ್ಸಾದ ಮಾಜಿ ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿ ನವೀನ ಪಾಟ್ನಾಯಕ್ !

ನಾನೇ ಹೋಗಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಪರಿಚಯಿಸಿಕೊಂಡೆ. ಸಂತೋಷದಿಂದ ಮಾತಾಡಿದರು. ‘ನೀವು… ಇಲ್ಲಿ… ಪುಸ್ತಕದ ಅಂಗಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ…?’ ಎಂದೆ. ನನ್ನನ್ನು ದಿಟ್ಟಿಸಿ ನೋಡಿದರು. ‘ನಾನು ಪುಸ್ತಕದ ಅಂಗಡಿಗೆ ಬರಬಾರದಾ?’ ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಅವರ ನೋಟದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದಂತಿತ್ತು.

‘ನನಗೆ ಇಷ್ಟವಾದ ಪುಸ್ತಕದ ಅಂಗಡಿ ಇದು. ನಾನು ದಿಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಬಂದಾಗಲೆಲ್ಲ ಇಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಬರುತ್ತೇನೆ. ನಾನು ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾಗಲೂ ಬರುತ್ತಿದ್ದೆ. ನನಗೆ ಬೇಕಾದ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನು ಖರೀದಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ’ ಎಂದರು. ‘ನಿಮಗೆ ಯಾವ ಪ್ರಕಾರದ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು ಇಷ್ಟ?’ ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದೆ. ‘ನನ್ನ ಇಷ್ಟಕ್ಕೆ ವರ್ಗೀಕರಣ ಇಲ್ಲ, ನಾನು ಎಲ್ಲ ಪ್ರಕಾರದ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನೂ ಓದುತ್ತೇನೆ’ ಎಂದರು.

ನನಗೆ ಅವರ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಪ್ರೇಮದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಇತಿಹಾಸ, ಕಲೆ, ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಅಂತಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ರಾಜಕೀಯದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅವರು ಅಪಾರ ಓದು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದ್ದೆ. ಅವರ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮವಾದ ಖಾಸಗಿ ಲೈಬ್ರರಿ ಇದೆ ಎಂದು ಒಮ್ಮೆ ‘ದಿ ವೀಕ್’ ಮ್ಯಾಗಜಿನ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಓದಿದ್ದೆ.

ರಾಜಕೀಯಕ್ಕೆ ಬರುವ ಮೊದಲೇ ನವೀನ ಅವರು, ಮೂರು ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನು (A Second Paradise: Indian Courtly Life 1590-1947, A Desert Kingdom: The Rajputs of Bikaner ಮತ್ತು The Garden of Life: An Introduction to the Healing Plants of India) ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಬರೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಗೊತ್ತಿತ್ತು.

ಇತ್ತೀಚೆಗೆ ನವೀನ್ ಪಟ್ನಾಯಕ್ ಅವರು ನೀಡಿದ ಸಂದರ್ಶನವೊಂದರಲ್ಲಿ, ‘ನಾನು ಅಮೆರಿಕದ ಪ್ರಥಮ ಮಹಿಳೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದ ಜಾಕ್ವೆಲಿನ್ ಕೆನಡಿ ಒನಾಸಿಸ್ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಬುದ್ಧಿವಂತ ಮಹಿಳೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅವರಿಂದ ಎಡಿಟಿಂಗ್ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ಕಲಿತೆ’ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದರು. ನಂತರ ಗೊತ್ತಾಗಿದ್ದೇನೆಂದರೆ - ಅಮೆರಿಕದ ಪ್ರಥಮ ಮಹಿಳೆಯ ಸ್ಥಾನದಿಂದ ಕೆಳಗಿಳಿದ ನಂತರ, ಜಾಕ್ವೆಲಿನ್ ಅವರು ನ್ಯೂಯಾರ್ಕ್‌ನ 'Doubleday' ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಿತ ಪ್ರಕಾಶನ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಎಡಿಟರ್ ಆಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಆಗ ನವೀನ್ ಪಟ್ನಾಯಕ್ ಅವರ ಬರವಣಿಗೆಯ ಶೈಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ಭಾರತೀಯ ಕಲೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಇತಿಹಾಸದ ಮೇಲಿನ ಅವರ ಪಕ್ವತೆಯನ್ನು ಕಂಡು ಅವರು ಖುಷಿಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದರು.

ನವೀನ್ ಪಟ್ನಾಯಕ್ ಅವರು ಬರೆದ 'A Second Paradise' ಮತ್ತು 'A Desert Kingdom' ಎಂಬ ಎರಡು ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನು ಜಾಕ್ವೆಲಿನ್ ಅವರೇ ಸ್ವತಃ ಎಡಿಟ್ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರು. ಭಾರತೀಯ ರಾಜಮನೆತನಗಳ ವೈಭವ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯನ್ನು ಜಗತ್ತಿಗೆ ಪರಿಚಯಿಸುವ ನವೀನ್ ಅವರ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನವನ್ನು ಅವರು ಬೆಂಬಲಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಇಬ್ಬರಿಗೂ ಕಲೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಸಮಾನ ಆಸಕ್ತಿ ಇದ್ದುದರಿಂದ ಅವರು ಆಪ್ತ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತರಾದರು. 1980ರ ದಶಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಜಾಕ್ವೆಲಿನ್ ಅವರು ಭಾರತಕ್ಕೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಿದ್ದಾಗ ನವೀನ್ ಪಟ್ನಾಯಕ್ ಅವರೇ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಗೈಡ್ ಮತ್ತು ಹೋಸ್ಟ್ ಆಗಿದ್ದರು.

ನವೀನ್ ಪಟ್ನಾಯಕ್ ಅವರ ಹಿರಿಯ ಸಹೋದರಿ ಗೀತಾ ಮೆಹತಾ ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಹೆಸರು. ನವೀನ್ ಪಟ್ನಾಯಕ್ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಕಲೆಯ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಆಸಕ್ತಿ ಬೆಳೆಯಲು ಗೀತಾ ಮೆಹ್ತಾ ಅವರ ಪ್ರಭಾವ ಬಹಳ ದೊಡ್ಡದಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದ್ದೇನೆ.

ಇಪ್ಪತ್ನಾಲ್ಕು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಒರಿಸ್ಸಾ ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿಯಾಗಿ, ಎರಡು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ ಆ ಹುದ್ದೆಯಿಂದ ನಿರ್ಗಮಿಸಿ, ‘ಮಾಜಿ’ಯಾದರೂ ಕಲೆ, ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ, ಓದಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿರುವುದರಿಂದ, ನವೀನ್ ಪಟ್ನಾಯಕ್ ಕ್ರಿಯಾಶೀಲರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎನಿಸಿತು.

Indian YouTuber and vlogger Kanika Devrani was traveling in Brahmaputra Mail to Guwahati when a shocking incident occurred.

At around 4 AM, while the train was at New Jalpaiguri Junction, West Bengal, an unidentified man allegedly sprayed a substance to knock passengers unconscious and stole Kanika’s iPhone 15 Pro Max, along with phones of few other passengers.

Kanika is able to track her iPhone using Find My Device, which shows its current location somewhere near SHISHU SHIKSHA KENDRA, MALDA, WEST BENGAL.

@WBPolice and @malda_police should take immediate action, trace the location, and help recover the stolen phones of passengers. The location is visible and trackable. This case can be solved quickly if acted upon now.

Tatkal booking on IRCTC has become a joke.

Seats show available, but the moment it turns 10 AM, the site hangs.

10 AM: Seats visible.
10:01: Website freezes.
10:03: All seats gone—even in remote routes.
10:04: Site suddenly smooth.

By the time it works again, all tickets are gone even for small routes.

Then the website runs smoothly because nothing’s left to book.

This used to happen years ago.
Suresh Prabhu had fixed it, but now it’s back.

Agents win, common people lose
again.
