Fiscal stress worsens in the first quarter of this financial year
The CAG uploaded the Monthly Key Indicators for the first quarter of this financial year and these figures very clearly suggest a precarious outlook for the financial stability of the State Government, Public finance management, particularly in a State such as AP, which has been adversely impacted by the State reorganization is a challenging task. Only the right quantum of Government expenditure in necessary areas of welfare and development can trigger private consumption and investment, thereby promoting a virtuous cycle.
Due to rampant corruption prevalent, the State revenues from different categories have demonstrated dismal growth on a year-on-year basis. The growth was subdued amongst all the categories of Government revenues, resulting in a lacklustre both in State Government’s own tax revenues and State Government’s non-tax revenues during the first quarter of the financial year 2025-26.
It is quite apparent that, the economic buoyancy of the State is lost, as evident from the abysmally low growth across some categories of State Government revenues and negative growth in others.
Goods and Service Tax and Sales Tax reflect consumption and is evident from the figures released by the CAG, the GST revenues and Sales Tax revenues were lower during the first three months of this financial year when compared with the corresponding period last year, the year-on-year growth during which, was already subdued.
On a year-on-year basis, during the first quarter of this financial year, the State’s own revenues have grown by only 3.47% and revenues receipts as whole, that includes receipts from Government of India, grew at 6.14% and it is only debt increase, that took place at an alarming pace of 15.61%, in these first three months of FY 2025-26 alone. Therefore, the reliance on sources other than the State Government’s own revenues for meeting Government expenditure is evident from this.
Congratulations to Grandmaster Koneru Humpy on becoming the first Indian woman to reach the FIDE Women’s Chess World Cup semifinal!
Your achievement is a proud moment for India and a true inspiration for young talent across the country. Wishing you continued success, more victories, and glory in the days ahead.

I strongly condemn the illegal arrest of YSRCP Lok Sabha MP Sri P.V. Midhun Reddy. This is nothing but a political conspiracy designed to silence those who stand with the people. Midhun Reddy, who has been elected as a Member of Parliament for three consecutive terms, has been falsely implicated through forced confessions. This is a targeted act of political vendetta by the TDP Government to cover up its own scams and failures.
The alleged liquor scam is nothing but a manufactured narrative, created purely for media theatrics and to divert attention from real issues. The entire case is built on statements extracted under pressure, threats, third-degree torture, and also through bribes and inducements.
The fact that @ncbn himself is on bail with respect to a case on issues pertaining to liquor policy during 2014 - 19 itself, is an irrefutable evidence as to why he is stooping so low. The fact that he wants to nullify his case for acts during 2014-19 and also justify his policy now for 2024- 29, he is finding fault with the policy formulated by the YSRCP Government.
What is more alarming is that, while falsely accusing YSRCP leaders of a liquor scam, the current TDP-led coalition is reviving the very corrupt liquor practices that the YSRCP government had dismantled. The belt shops and illegal liquor outlets named permit rooms have returned. While undoing YSRCP government's successful deeds of shutting down thousands of such belt shops and permit rooms and also reducing the liquor outlets significantly, the present government is now encouraging permit rooms, belt shops, backdoor liquor sales beyond MRP and weakening regulatory enforcement. Corruption and Mafia have crept back into the process of awarding wine shop licenses, and thereby placement of orders to the distilleries, undoing the transparent Government shops system we put in place in 2019.
Chandrababu Naidu is misusing state agencies and the yellow media to settle political scores. Ironically, Naidu himself is currently out on bail in multiple serious corruption cases, including a liquor scam that occurred during his own tenure from 2014 to 2019. During that time, private liquor syndicates thrived, and corruption was institutionalized.
After coming to power, Naidu stalled investigations into those serious corruption cases against him and his close associates. To divert attention and escape accountability, he has conspired to fabricate a politically motivated liquor case targeting YSRCP leaders.
The TDP's real agenda is now clear. They want to use the SIT to arrest YSRCP leaders under the guise of investigation and drag the legal process to keep them in jail indefinitely. But once the actual trial begins, the truth will emerge. This is a baseless, politically motivated case totally devoid of legal merit.
YSRCP leaders are being arrested not because they are guilty, but because the party remains deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. This is not a legal process. It is a political witch-hunt aimed at destabilizing a strong opposition.
Every time such conspiracies have been hatched to suppress the YSRCP, we have fought back with courage. We rose by standing with the people and giving them a voice. That is how the YSRCP earned its place today, by confronting injustice head-on.
The abuse of power by the TDP, as described above, is nothing short of a crime perpetrated against Democracy. I commit to the people that, regardless of how overwhelming the odds can be, The YSRCP will continue to stand with the people, remain their voice and their shield, now and always.
I am also attaching a comprehensive note on the liquor issue for your perusal- https://t.co/OPeqD6yWiA
CM @ncbn suppressing dissent with state machinery
The right to question, protest, and assemble forms the bedrock of democracy, empowering citizens to freely express their grievances and demand accountability. In Andhra Pradesh, however, this fundamental democratic process is being ruthlessly crushed under the weight of an authoritarian regime led by Chandrababu Naidu. Through blatant misuse of police power, it stifles dissent and creates a chilling atmosphere akin to a police state or dictatorship. Every attempt by the public or opposition to raise legitimate concerns is met with repression, harassment, and fabricated legal cases, leaving no room for dissent. This deliberate assault on democratic freedom is an attack on the very essence of democracy in the state.
The intent is clear: to obscure the systematic suppression of the opposition, the public, and democratic processes.
Specific instances reveal this suppression of democracy.
1. Mirchiyard, Guntur (Feb 19, 2025): I met mirchi farmers to address their plight, as they face denial of remunerative prices and a drastic drop in mirchi prices from Rs 27,000 to Rs 8,000 per quintal. 1 case was filed.
2. Ramagiri (April 8, 2025): I visited Rapthadu constituency to console the family of Kuruba Lingamaiah, a backward class (BC) leader of YSRCP who was brutally murdered by TDP followers in Ramagiri. One case was filed, including on Rapthadu constituency YSRCP coordinator Thopadurthi Prakash Reddy.
3. Podili (June 11, 2025): I met tobacco farmers to address the coalition government's failure to provide remunerative prices, despite a 20% increase in cultivation on the advice of the tobacco board and a drastic fall in tobacco prices. 3 cases filed, with 15 farmers jailed, and 4 others arrested, but thanks to the courts, who denied remand.
4. Sattenapalli (June 18, 2025): When I visited to console the family who committed suicide due to police misconduct, the state responded with 5 cases, with 131 notices issued, and 2 remanded for displaying a movie poster.
5. Bangarupalyam (July 9, 2025): My visit to support mango farmers triggered the filing of five cases. Over 20 people are currently in police custody, yet they have not been officially shown as arrested for the past two days, nor have they been produced before the court.
In every instance, the authorities list three or four named individuals alongside vague references to “others,” allowing them to arbitrarily target more people later. During my every visit, the police are putting all their efforts to curtail the movement of the people. YSRCP leaders and party workers are being issued notices in advance, and in many cases, they are being detained at their homes to prevent them from joining the events. Even farmers are being stopped, questioned, and video recorded at multiple checkpoints. These repressive tactics, including lathi charges and restrictions on public gatherings, show the government is misusing police machinery to silence the opposition and intimidate dissent through legal harassment.
Despite numerous harassments, the only opposition party in this state is responsibly addressing public issues through its programs. Chandrababu Naidu's actions through fabricated cases, arrests, and media manipulation reveal a desperate attempt to cling to power by suffocating democratic expression. Chandrababu Naidu is silencing the voiceless, eroding the very democratic fabric, leaving citizens with no avenue to challenge injustice or demand their rights, in spite of broken promises of misgovernance by the current regime.
