JUST IN: New Mexico Democrat Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández had to be escorted out of the ICE Torrance County Detention Facility yesterday during a pre-scheduled tour after she began acting erratically, disrupting operations, verbally abusing staff and calling them Nazis, and yelling out in Spanish to the detainees that she was there to free them.
We were glad to host you, Congresswoman. For those curious, here’s what happened:
Prior to the visit, the Congresswoman signed ICE’s Facility Visitation Agreement form, indicating she would abide by all processes and policies governing personal conduct at ICE facilities. One of these policies is that meetings with detainees must be scheduled in advance, both for the privacy of detainees and the safety of visitors.
Field leadership welcomed the Congresswoman and led a comprehensive tour tailored to the specific areas she had requested to see, including visitor check-in, intake, kitchen/food preparation and medical services. During a tour of the kitchen area, the Congresswoman asked to speak with certain detainees in the area and was reminded that without prior consent from detainees, her request could not be accommodated at that time. Instead of accepting this guidance, the Congresswoman began talking and shouting to them from a distance, telling the detainees who she was and attempting to get closer to them. This disrupted operations and required intervention by facility leadership.
ICE maintains clear policies about acceptable conduct within its facilities, just like all other federal law enforcement agencies do. Those policies are made clear ahead of time to congressional visitors. Despite some members’ failures to abide by those policies, ICE continues to go above and beyond to keep the American people informed about our mission, operations and people.

@ElectJayCBlock@benraylujan@GOP@SenateGOP@NMSenate_GOP Nothing but crickets from him on the pharmaceutical most favored nation pricing. He is in a pinch due to the 100’s of thousands of dollars he accepted from Big Pharma.
@Rep_Stansbury Why are you against stopping fraud? Both parties should agree on this simple concept. You are on the committee, why not roll up your sleeves and investigate what they are finding rather than fighting everything.
@SenatorLujan Have you ever wondered why there is no bird flu in Mexico? It mysteriously stops at the border. This is BIG pharma wanting to push their avian vaccine. Problem is, can’t export chicken if they are vaccinated.
@krqe This bill also eliminates the tip credit and has an automatic CPI increase every year. This will really hurt restaurants. Zero Net Sum Gain. Businesses pass along costs.
While attacking @elonmusk and @DOGE, Former Bureaucrat and Ranking Member of the @DOGECommittee, Melanie Stansbury, claims she is fighting for democracy.
But she’s actually fighting for the BUREAUCRACY.
The quote at the end is my favorite. Three years ago, Democrats wanted to hear NOTHING from parents concerned about their kids' schools. They sent the FBI after parents.
Now they're claiming to represent them. Hilarious.
