Well, there was lots of bad news in the autumn statement, but it was good to see the research budget and plans to increase it to £20 billion protected and recognition of research and universities as drivers of growth and productivity. It would be good to see Scot Gov do the same.

It’s interesting that in a series of polls (eg. Tony Blair Foundation, IPSOS/Economist) a majority in the UK support economic growth, but almost nothing that brings it about (EU, single market, immigration, investing in science over pensions etc.).
Ukraine attacks military supply routes, invading soldiers and warships. Russia responds by attacking children, playgrounds, civilian infrastructure and world food supplies. It’s difficult to see how history will treat this war…
