A successful coffee morning was held on Saturday 17th June to raise funds for the Ugandan Grandmothers programme. Valerie Fallon hosted the event and there was a great turnout. Over tea, coffee and delicious home-baked eats people chatted and renewed acquaintance with each other.

Behaviour change efforts— including age-appropriate sex education, and targeted HIV prevention campaigns- have not been widespread enough to reduce HIV infections as much as is needed. While intimate-partner violence, which helps to drive HIV, remains common.

—- for example, the criminalization of HIV transmission and same-sex activities. Abortion is only allowed to save a woman’s life.

HIV prevalence among sex workers is estimated to be as high as 35%, 14% among men who have sex with men and 23-35% among fishing communities. Various laws and policies continue to hamper HIV response and people’s access to sexual and reproductive health services—-

We can win AIDS war, AIDS-related deaths in Uganda fell from 51,000 in 2010 to 17,000 in 2021- three times fewer deaths. RCRA has a long term commitment on health promotion and community mobilization for HIV prevention , testing and linkages to treatment.

In 2019, Uganda made free #HIV self-testing kits available from public health facilities, and to buy in drug shops of all sizes, RCRA has been successful reaching remote communities with HIV test services together with #familyplanning with support from @chaseafricaphe

— particularly for adolescent girls and young women; PEP; PrEP access; management of sexually transmitted infections, including partner infections; a full range of prevention services for young people, particularly #adolescent girls and young women(AGYW), test and treat services

Our HIV prevention in Rwenzori region focuses on: prevention of mother-to- child transmission; voluntary medical male circumcision; social and behavior change communications; male and female condoms promoting and distributing; addressing gender-based violence,

As of 2021: In Uganda, 1.4 million people were living with HIV, 5.2% adult HIV prevalence, 54,000 new HIV infections, 17,000 AIDS-related deaths, and 1.2 million people on antiretroviral treatment
