🚨 DATA CENTER MORATORIUMS ARE JUST THE FIRST STEP.

A moratorium means PAUSE. While Florida pauses, let’s make sure our politicians keep us from becoming Northern Virginia.
In Loudoun County, data centers surround cemeteries. You can sit on a bench in the cemetery and hear the constant whirl of the machines.
They sit across from homes, turning backyard views into massive, noisy data centers. Residents were told the noise was temporary. It wasn’t. The generators never turned off.
The buildings are only part of the problem. Data centers need MORE LAND for high-voltage power lines and substations.
In Loudoun County, they’re becoming more common than 7-Elevens.

Don’t let them Virginia our Florida.

🚨 DON’T LET THEM VIRGINIA OUR FLORIDA.
Loudoun County, Virginia has 250 data centers and counting.
⚡️Grid-connected data centers have raised residents’ utility costs.
Others use massive diesel generators. Residents miles away can hear them.
They were told the generators were only for emergencies and testing. According to residents they never shut them off.
One Loudoun County resident’s message to other communities: Fight any data center within 10–15 miles of residential buildings.

Every Florida politician should visit Loudoun County before approving another data center.

Florida’s aquifer is being drained, and our springs are showing it.
Poe Springs has stopped flowing. Lithia Springs is very low, while Mosaic uses water from the property for fertilizer production. Kissengen Springs is now little more than a mud hole.
Yet politicians tell us, “Don’t worry, data centers don’t use that much water.”

I’d encourage them to visit Florida’s springs.

@Matt_The_Welder What am I missing? If Fort Meade is giving a $ 140 million deal in a 10 year property tax cut deal how is Byron Donald’s then saying that “this is fresh tax revenue” will be coming to the tax payers of Fort Mead. So is the data center going to be paying more property taxes?

Fort Meade residents overwhelmingly rejected a data center.
Polk County approved a $140 MILLION tax break. Fort Meade approved the project.

Commissioner Bill Braswell said the tax break was easy to approve. Now he wants a sales tax increase to make up for lost property-tax revenue.
Byron Donalds says fiscally strained counties see data centers as a fresh revenue stream.
Here’s the problem: they’re loud, consume massive amounts of energy and water, and Fort Meade proves residents aren’t getting a free ride.

Residents are paying for the data center’s tax break.

🚨 The Republican Party of Florida is starting to look less like a political party and more like Evan power’s wedding guest list.

Some of the political texts Florida voters received all summer trace back to one of Evan Power’s wedding guests, who was later appointed to the Manatee County Republican Executive Committee.

That appointment came after the Republican Party of Florida removed the committeeman who had actually been elected by voters.

That’s quite the guest list. 👀

Florida’s surveillance problem keeps getting harder to explain.

Oviedo: fake Flock cameras were installed without the mayor knowing.

Pasco: a commissioner admitted she hadn’t read the license-plate-reader contract, then defended it against concerns about warrantless mass surveillance.

Manatee County: the sheriff said there’s “a lot of misinformation” surrounding Flock cameras. Interestingly, Flock CEO @glangley has also used the misinformation line in an NBC interview.

Okaloosa County: Langley emailed the sheriff’s department claiming activists were trying to “weaponize” public-records requests.
Yet politicians and Flock’s CEO still can’t figure out why people don’t trust license plate readers.

Now there’s a Flock camera pointed at the entrance to the Chassahowitzka Wildlife Management Area.
