Oliver Potszch’ The Poisoned Pilgrim is the fourth novel in the hangman’s daughter series. Bought the paperback randomly at an “all mysteries” book store upon the proprietor’s enthusiast rec. good entertaining read.
The Emperor of All Maladies by Siddhartha Mukherjee. Continuing to learn about cell growth, the state of cancer research (as of 2010) and the astonishing progress of this century; we are beginning to know what we don’t know.
A Thousand Moons by Sebastian Barry. Pleasantly narrated plot line about a post civil war family of survivors in Tennessee. Reminds us of the human capacity for cruelty and goodness, and the various aspects of justice.
The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell. Dutch and Japanese culture and the significance of translation woven through a story of survival in the early 1800s. A truly well written historical novel.
