Yesterday, Malaysia & the UK chip designer @Arm Holdings signed a milestone agreement.

The countdown is on! On 15 December the UK officially joins #CPTPP giving 🇬🇧&🇲🇾 our 1st ever free trade agreement. We started the countdown today with @tzafrul_aziz and 100 UK & Malaysian business reps getting ready to seize the opportunities for trade, investment and growth.

2024 training on counterfeit alcohol attracted over 120 🇲🇾 enforcement officers.

Topics included product identification, evidence required for investigation for prosecution of cases and initiatives undertaken by @LazadaMY & @MCMC_RASMI to combat counterfeit alcohol sold online.

Traders can cumulate content from other CPTPP members to meet rules of origin requirements and take advantage of members’ tariff liberalisation commitments.

United Kingdom merupakan pasaran terbesar Malaysia bagi sektor perkhidmatan di Eropah dengan nilai perdagangan dua hala antara kedua-dua negara mencecah RM23.28 bilion. Jumlah eksport Malaysia ke UK berjumlah RM9.94 bilion, mencakupi 5.1% daripada eksport perkhidmatan negara kita.

Semasa Mesyuarat Menteri Ekonomi ASEAN, saya mengadakan mesyuarat dua hala bersama TYT Douglas Alexander, Menteri Dasar Perdagangan dan Keselamatan Ekonomi United Kingdom. Kami berbincang mengenai pelbagai cara untuk meningkatkan kerjasama ekonomi antara Malaysia-UK terutamanya di ambang Kepengerusian ASEAN oleh Malaysia pada 2025.

Perbincangan ini diteruskan melalui Perundingan Menteri Ekonomi ASEAN – United Kingdom Keempat tetapi kali ini di dalam konteks ASEAN pula. Malaysia menyokong usaha untuk mengukuhkan perkongsian ASEAN-UK, bagi memacu pertumbuhan ekonomi yang mampan dan mempertingkatkan integrasi serantau.

Malaysia is the latest country to ratify the UK's accession to CPTPP.

This means the UK will have a trade agreement with Malaysia for the first time, entering into force by 15 Dec & giving significant trading opportunities for UK exporters to an economy worth over £330bn in GDP.

Peru has become the sixth country to ratify the UK’s CPTPP membership.

This means the UK has now reached enough signatures to enter the dynamic trade group as a full member by 15 December 2024.

The countdown begins.
