I have no problem with the benefit of the doubt part, but the irony of these posts from so many in the media is that they’re actually advocating for and creating a B1G 10 echo chamber of self-perpetuating circular logic that’s identical to the one they hate from the SEC while based on a fraction of the results and recruiting pedigree…
Ohio State winning isn’t proof that the B1G is a juggernaut league. It’s actually proof that the SEC’s playoff arguments were dead on. The Buckeyes always had a baseline level of talent that is required to win big, and they finally got it working together. The SEC has 13-14 teams recruiting Top 25 classes every year. That makes them more likely to beat each other, especially with OU and Texas in the league and unbalanced schedules. It also means that the version of “getting hot” for the Top 4-5 SEC teams in any given season is going to be much more dangerous than the ACC runner-up’s. It will look much more like this Ohio State team’s “getting hot” than the built-in ceiling that exists for the teams that SEC bias Twitter screamed “results have to matter” about before using their very predictable blowout losses to further puff up the reputations of the same teams they’ve been lobbying for all season— That’s an echo chamber, and you’re just creating your own
Don’t have the gall to point to the non-CFP bowl games. The teams with title caliber rosters aren’t showing up for those locked in and ready to go. You all said those bowls didn’t matter last year when UGA beat a 13-0 ACC team by 60. Ditto for when Mizzou beat the Ohio St. program you’re all clutching the coattails of today.
Ole Miss or Bama could’ve waltzed into the semis if it had PSU’s draw. The Rebs had the pass rushers to turn Oregon’s OL into the type of hell it was in today
Arizona State proved again today that they’re a great football team. They only beat a Mississippi State team who went 0-8 in the SEC by 7 points when they played them in Tempe. How do you think Purdue would’ve played them? That’s the difference, and it is 100% measurable.
The “benefit of the doubt” is what you gave Penn State when it couldn’t score an offensive TD at home against OSU. It’s what you gave whenn assuming Oregon was a juggernaut when it eeked out a 3-point win on Wisconsin’s field after Bama blew them out by 30+ points in Camp Randall.
You don’t want fair. You want to wave “results matter” as a talking point but not care who they happen against. What you want is the exact type of blind trust that you’ve claimed the SEC receives, but you want it after winning 2 of the last 21 national titles. It’s intellectually dishonest, and it ignores most of the fundamental forces that drive the sport
@JeffPassan Are you getting paid to find the only stats that favor Betts? The MLB’s Los Angeles love affair is wild- the race has been over for 2+ weeks….
@Shaptennispod@UGAAthletics Wow sounds like you’re reaping what you sow- how nice of a name to call the fans of the sport you “support.” Sorry the program makes tennis accessible which has made attendance significantly higher than other schools. Should I call the old folks home?
