You have 4 official scriptures. One of those, the Doctrine & Covenants is where most of the really bad stuff lives.
Joseph, in these covenants, claims Jesus declared he should seal many women on Earth and anyone who doesn't do this will NOT be as powerful in the celestial afterlife.
To disagree with this is to claim that Joseph was not receiving real word from Jesus.
You choose.
It depends on the Catholic. My grandma is Catholic and shes certainly saved, a strong believer in Jesus.
But the reliance on human priests is in conflict with the one high priest in Jesus Christ who we are called to have a direct relationship with.
The exhaltation of "Saints" "angels" and "Mary" is a rejection or Gods jealous desire to be our only God revealed in the Ten Commandments.
These things don't inherently mean you aren't saved but rely too heavily on them and you aren't in a right relationship with God.
@baby_maumau You do gatekeep eternal salvation. Joseph claims he was given the priesthood of Levi. Learn your own religion not just the fluffy stuff said by your congregation.
@Latterdaytruth Jesus is the only high priest. Earthly priests are but a representative. This Joseph Smith fabrication of conferring priesthood is not only fake but its bad theology. Why did all the biblical figures not see a superpeantheon of heroes.
@BasedMikeLee Mike please talk about this plurality of wives idea that Jesus supposedly told Joseph and Brigham to practice. Not in 1000 BC but in the 1800s just a few generations ago.
@willole@LowerLeavell OT heroes were never examples of perfection, but still achieved greatness in faith and deeds in spite of their imperfections.
Joseph Smith justified his imperfections inappropriately through declaring divine authority.
The justification reveals the problem. The OT heroes were not justified by polygamy, quite the opposite, and never prophesied in favor. The New Testament is explicit in its rejection and incredible favorable to women in general. Why would Jesus declare that the 1800s were the right time to bring it back?
@Mormonger Dude your post might be the biggest proof of all. If your basis for salvation is different than Christianity then you aren't the same religion.
Even if the BOM weren't problematic, the Mormon church is a new religion because its founded on the basis of revelation from God to Joseph with a new covenant.
Just read the official scripture of mormonism and it screams new religion.

Thats a new religion.
@PetGorilla Yes, according to Mormon scripture God gave Joseph the explicit instruction to have many wives. Its of eternal consequence.
