In the last three hours two M 5 earthquakes occurred at the Dodecanese Islands. Within 12 minutes of the last one, two moderate but widely felt earthquakes occurred in Greece (M 4.6) and Morocco (M 4.9).

A new #aftershock occurred in #Morocco. This kind of activity is normal after a strong #earthquake. Moderate tremors between 4-5 magnitude can occur weeks later. A second strong earthquake in the short term is less likely, although we cannot rule out that possibility entirely.

@rrichcord @Azngmed @ssgeos @USGS I correct :" the earthquake was at almost 16h30 local H not utc" it means 15h30 utc. When i checked the information on https://t.co/HYDm5fRjTZ i found out that it was at 15h45 utc, once i came back to the precursors data i saw that effectively there was a peak at 15h45 utc

Our hearts go out to those affected by the magnitude 6.8 earthquake that struck the Atlas Mountains of western Morocco on September 8, 2023 at 11:11 pm local time. The epicenter is estimated to be about ~26 km (16 miles) deep, near the town of Oukaïmedene, ~75 km SW of Marrakech.
