#UKSF25 complete, brilliant to chat with so many delegates about our work prioritising stroke nursing in Scotland. Great to grow our membership with many nurses signing up to have a voice moving stroke nursing forward in Scotland. @ScotStrokeNurse@Z1NURSE
Super proud of the stroke nursing community this week! A brilliant #uksf25 programme with wonderful contributions from nursing teams. Very proud to be representing @ScotStrokeNurse, @NHSGIRFT and @RIEHASU
Bonus plenary handed over entirely to people with lived expertise. Caleb, Stacie, Saran and our very own Linda Hanlon (CHSS National Advisory Panel) talking about engagement, passion, goals and safe spaces.

Well done, Sandra, on your 25 years of service to the #NHS. Sandra has spent many of these years working within our #stroke service as a dedicated CSW. Congratulations! 👏👏 @CNMChris1975@RIE_LOTHIAN@NHS_Lothian
Fantastic to have Emma Harper MSP drop by our @StrokeScotland exhibition this week and sign our pledge board to help make stroke a priority in Scotland - much appreciated.
So honoured to have been selected to represent Scotland at the @NHSGIRFT stroke leadership programme. Feeling so lucky to belong to a great cohort and have the support of @Deborah71247971@HargrovesDavid. I think we are gonna do some great things! 😅🙂 @nhslothian
This is a brilliant film shining a spotlight on stroke and thrombectomy. It’s incredible moving and demonstrates the need for 24/7 access across the UK to this groundbreaking and cost effective treatment #StrokeMatters
Today is #StrokePreventionDay.

Take it from Ian, who speaks from personal and professional experience. 👇 #SPD25
Dr Michael Hill emphasised the importance of speed in thrombectomy.
“We’re not tidy - sacrifice everything for speed.
“If not under 60 minutes from door-to-puncture, you’re not going fast enough.”
But even the fastest thrombectomy services in England take over 2 hours. #UKSF24
Professor Mead added, “Place of death should be discussed, even though, in the event of stroke, hospital is the most likely. Unless we ask, we can’t facilitate.
Be open to questions from family:
“How long will it take to die?”
Discuss these issues with openness and kindness.
At #UKSF24 Professor Gillian Mead spoke about bespoke palliative care for stroke patients.
“Early discussions about likely outcome could be more direct.
“Important to be open to what families are saying.
“Even as a senior clinician, I still find these conversations difficult.”
An insightful talk by @AzmilAbdulRahim on stroke heart syndrome at #UKSF2024 🧠🫀
Conclusion: understanding the brain-heart connection is key to improving stroke recovery and outcomes. @LiverpoolCCS
