Over 10,000 Ugandans are trapped in poverty & malnutrition, left with broken promises of compensation after being evicted by The New Forests Company for timber & carbon credits. Investors must uphold social standards &support these communities.

With #cop29 approving a new era for #Article6o4, there will be pressure for a new wave of national carbon policy. My brilliant colleague @EileenWakesho has suggestions on how African nations can use this as an opportunity to lead #carbonjustice

Arriving today at #COP29 to hear that some want to skip the negotiations on #Article6o4 and call it good enough. There's one problem: it is not good enough. No land rights and very weak removal definitions. We've got two weeks, let's #FixArticle6. #carbonjustice

❌In violation of Tanzanian law, impacted Maasai communities were neither consulted nor compensated for being forced from their land
⚠️The ruling sets a dangerous precedent for Indigenous land rights across Tanzania and calls into question the independence of the judiciary that openly cited tourism revenues as a factor in its decision.
