Online shopping in India gets new rules from 1st January 2027 🛒🇮🇳

No more fake discounts: every sale must show the product's lowest price from the last 30 days.

Ads must look like ads: paid listings must be clearly marked. Apps can't rig search results and must explain how products show up in search.

No more tricks: apps must check themselves once a year for design tricks (like hidden charges or fake urgency) and display a certificate proving they're clean.

Faster complaint handling: your complaint must be answered in 48 hours and fixed within 1 month. You also get a copy of it.

Clearer seller info: imported products must show which country they're from and who imported them. The seller's name must appear on the bill in the same size as the app's name. Seller tax/MSME numbers must be shown.

Your data, your choice: apps need your clear permission before using your data to push their own-brand products. And they can't add extra charges for things unrelated to your order.

Return, refund, warranty, delivery and payment details must be easier to find. Every app must also join the National Consumer Helpline.

Over 17.7 lakh complaints were filed on the helpline in 2025. Nearly 1 in 3 was about online shopping.
