8 in 10 of us back full public ownership of rail. But if @Heidi_Labour doesn't impose a moratorium on @RailandRoad approving more open access applications, they can lock in privatisation for decades. Please step in URGENTLY. @we_ownit open letter: https://t.co/ucwIBWS6Qs
@DoggyMint@GeorgeMonbiot It wasnt fine. He pulled out of climate negotiotions, cancelled the nuclear treaty with Iran, opened more fossil fuel mines and drills, tried to stop health care, rattled the economy etc.
@GeorgeMonbiot Absolutely! Plus, far too many weakly politicised voting solely on their fears/emotions and zero political knowledge wrapped up in arrogance. Starmer, Farage, Trump, Tories. The list is endless in how much corruption alongside oligarchs, who run the rw mainstream political media.
Plenty of pundits are telling us “cheer up, Trump’s all hot air. He doesn’t really mean it.” History is littered with such self-deceptions, and they don’t age well. In fact, these confident chin-strokers have often proved to be a major part of the problem.
I’ve been called a communist many times in the past few days, because I oppose Trump. But the people levelling this accusation are perfect Soviet commissar or Chinese Red Guard material. All dictatorships are alike, and all are sustained by blindly obedient loyalists.
If you are feeling anguish or desolation at this result, you are not alone. This time around, Trump’s team have a concrete plan (called Project 2025) to destroy as much as they can of the world’s remaining climate stability. This is a crime and a tragedy. There are many things that should happen in response, but here is the most important: we need to build resilience together against what is coming. Trump’s victory makes eco-driven societal collapse more likely, and our situation will become increasingly parlous. Don’t just get mad, get safer. Now is the time to pour our energy into community resilience like we never have before. This election result must be an ultimate wake-up call; we need to protect ourselves together against the unimaginable storms that will, tragically, keep growing over the coming decade(s).
My message to the Trump voters crowing about their victory:
You won, suck it up. Because your lives are going to be just as screwed by this result as ours are.
Good; but then why is the Govt doing so little to actually address climate impacts?
The Govt has a mission on decarbonising electricity; but has no mission for protecting us against these impacts.
>There needs to be a 6th mission: Of protective climate adaptation.<
RT to agree.

The awesome @RobGMacfarlane speaking at the @Right_2Roam@EveryonesStars rally ‘It’s a tragedy that we’re having to fight against the extinction of access rather than for the extension of access… Labour need to make good on their earlier pledges of a right of responsible access”
Not sure how they could be more clear: “The future of humanity lies in the balance” & we need “an ecological & post-growth economics framework that ensures social justice”. Report should be ringing deafening alarm bells with governments around the world

It’s as if none of the work on sustainable economies ever happened. Starmer bangs on about “growth” but growth of what, for whom, at what cost? Not all growth is good & as scientists concluded last week “In a world of finite resources, unlimited growth is a perilous illusion”.
Brilliant covers all my thinking maybe someone should buy @UKLabour a dictionary what is it they don't understand about the meaning of #Change ? For sure it isn't what they're delivering!
Enduring more economic pain and hardship isn’t what people voted for. They were told they were voting for change. Not voting for things to get worse before they get better. Labour needs to be honest about the fact that they could choose to make things better for everyone if they were bolder and braver.
What is being framed as tough choices is actually about political choices. People don’t need a constant reminder that the Tories broke Britain. They need a new approach, not misguided fiscal rules that are set to make things worse.
We must generate the funds needed for investment by shifting the burden away from the poorest onto the wealthiest. Labour’s refusal to tax the super-rich shows that business as usual is very much still in business.
Keir Starmer says the violent riots earlier this month exposed a deeply unhealthy society. But the health of a society can’t be improved if it is forced to swallow the same failed medicine. The government can choose to provide the investment our communities are crying out for. This would help create hope and unleash the goodness of people to improve their communities.
All very fine but the simple fact is there is a limit to growth on a finite planet @ClubOfRome were always correct but the fossil fuel lobby carried on & now we hover on the brink of disaster & may learn not much use being rich on a dead planet . #degrowth#XR
Our UK PM is a socialist. When he says he wants to grow the economy he does not mean it the way we think he does. He means it the way a socialist means it - He believes it is possible to grow the economy without any particular individual benefiting more than others. He thinks he can raise the tide economically without any individuals getting rich personally.
This is the socialist fantasy. It never works because an economy is made up of individuals. The Singaporean economy is wealthy because individuals are wealthy. The Venezuelan population is impoverished because individuals are impoverished.
For the PM, there is nothing incongruent about saying he wants a high growth, high tax economy. In his head, it is the government that creates high growth and individuals just slave away the same regardless of their personal incentives.
When he talks about “wealth creation” being a primary goal, he is talking about the socialist idea of wealth - a shared wealth that is held primarily by the state. He is not talking about you personally having any.
Socialsist believe nonsense. They would probably believe that “if we are all slaves then we will all be free” or “if none of us has a nice car then we will all have nice cars”. It’s a logical fallacy they can’t get their heads around. Why? Deep down they are emotional and emotions block logic.
They are driven by a hatred of inequality of outcomes. In particular socialists hate anyone doing better than them. They have a clear vision of utopia and this vision of utopia makes them feel superior to others. They can’t stand “lesser people” like high-school dropouts earning more money and having more wealth. How can a shopkeepers daughter become PM when she’s clearly not as excellent as a lawyer. How can an Essex boy drive around in Rolls Royce when I don’t and I am an academic! It makes their blood boil and they are willing to destroy society rather than face facts that wealth and income isn’t based on superiority, it’s based on free markets - oh do they hate free markets!
We need to rewild 30% of the planet to restore nature & protect our wildlife, but Britain is falling behind. So I've signed this new petition calling on one of our biggest landowners - the Church of England - to rewild it's land. Join me? https://t.co/BsuTRdyXgE via @38degrees
Who should be paying to fix our struggling NHS? Cuts to the poorest people in the UK, or a new tax on the wealth of the richest? I think it should be a new wealth tax. Agree? Join me and sign the petition today: https://t.co/lBdGQPpMsL
