Chess Goals for 2023:
1. Fully develop according to opening principles, before launching attacks.
2. Actively apply process questions with each move.
3. Regular tactics training.
4. Play longer, slower games and then annotate them.
5. Play an OTB tournament.

It took a long time. I've been slowly reworking the way I use my chess time to help me focus longer and not just chase after the first shiny thing I see.

@johnkoch92 I wish I could say I knew. I do know that it is a team game and that you can actually capture the king of the first member of a team. They also have long and short castles. It's utter chaos, but the kids seem to like it
Follow up from my recent OTB rapid. I went 3-2 in the U1200.
I'm pretty happy with how it went. Always have things to work on, but for now...
Yeah!

It's an interesting experience being the coordinator my my school chess club. I'm not much better than the best kids there (for now) and each of the top 3 have beat me multiple times, but it is rare.
I can't teach them pedagogically, but... (1/3)

I love watching them connect with each other and improve. I am especially proud of my one grade 9 girl who has already locked up 1st in our school-wide Rapid Championship with 5.5 points out of 7.
I can share various resources with them and often, it's some of the same stuff I am working on. Play slow, play principled moves, look for tactics, etc. The ones there for fun are having fun and those looking to really improve keep getting better...
