In today's presser on the gulfstream scandal, I remarked sarcastically that in the spirit of "kharida hai bhai" Maryam should just say "istimal kiya hai bhai, kiya kar saktay ho?"

To my astonishment, in her speech in Multan, that is effectively exactly what she said.

One of the reasons that PTI is struggling today despite unprecedented support for Imran Khan is epitomised by the reaction within party supporters and much of the party leadership to Hammad Azhar's arrest.

Much of the leadership you will find quiet. This has taken us to the point where many are simply looking around their shoulders first for the consequences of any of their actions in a lawless land, because they know no one in the party will have their back.

Meanwhile, much of the support base will look at the arrest with suspicion. This is more than sad. I can vouch, having worked with Hammad as part of a small group entrusted to manage the party before the election, to his courage, uprightness and loyalty to Imran Khan. I am sure he will stay as strong and loyal to Imran Khan through his unjust incarceration, and come out, and one day, as is the case in this strange land we love, be a minister once again serving his country. The police that put him in handcuffs will be saluting him again.

Thoughts and prayers for his mother, wife and young children through this difficult and unjust time.

In 1988, I remember the world was laughing when England used 4 captains and 28 players in 6 tests. The team was in disarray.

Almost 40 years later, Pakistan cricket is in such a mess they send half the team and the coaches back in the middle of the test series.

What a disgrace. But just like the PIMs incident, targeting the team is just targeting the symptom. The root cause, is the governance set up from the top, which has collapsed.
