Anent to spurious accusations I have repeatedly misquoted Mrs Thatcher in Parliament, let me just expand on her position further. The full quote from Mrs Thatcher in “The Downing Street Years” is as follows and as stated,

“As a nation, they [Scotland] have an undoubted right to national self- determination; thus far they have exercised that right by joining and remaining in the Union. Should they determine on independence no English party or politician would stand in their way, however much we might regret their departure.” (p.624)

The final sentence is regularly omitted by certain commentators, but is an unequivocal recognition that it is a matter for the people of Scotland to decide.

This is supported by Mrs Thatchers comments on the principle of self-determination.

“I'm standing up for the right of self determination, I'm standing up for our territory. I'm standing up for our people. I'm standing up for international law. I'm standing up for all those territories - those small territories and peoples the world over”. (p.210)

And

“The principle of ' self-determination has become a fundamental component of international law, and is enshrined in the UN Charter.” (p.174)

These are all points I have made and will continue to make in defence of Scotland’s inalienable, internationally recognised and lawful human right to self-determination. My position is further supported in the expert legal opinion I obtained from esteemed Professor Robert McCorquodale, “it is for the people to decide and not the State”

The unavoidable fact is that it is not in the gift of any Westminster Government or UK Supreme court to impede, block or deny that right. It’s sadder still that the SNP leadership have long since given up making these arguments and are quite deliberately leading the movement in entirely the wrong direction. @AlbaParty will never lose sight of our central ambition for #ScottishIndependence. Nothing more, nothing less.
