@Dan_Furman Our future-thinking Cabinet approved the name University of South Florida in 1956 bc it was the southernmost state school at the time. There really wasn’t much else until you got to Broward-Dade so USF was envisioned as multiple campuses from Tampa south. That didn’t age well.
