I’ve been an RN for about 6 or 7 months now. And todays the first day I accidentally wore my badge home (instead of stashing it in my bag) and I got home and saw myself in the mirror and had a moment of just sheer proudness for myself 😭😭. I really did/am doing this 😭😭

Dealing with racism on a daily basis while engaging in activities that are supposed to be calming and grounding for you is EXHAUSTING. Yet I still run into people that deny its current existence and think it’s “a thing of the past”. Willful ignorance and stupidity.

Out of all of the hands-on nursing skills I’ve acquired and used in my time in the ER, I think my most proudest skill moment was verbal de-escalation of a patient that no one else could, who was ready to whoop all of the staff members butts 😭.

@ModerateFERN (2/2) and needed help with the standing portion. So then at that point they asked me to ambulate him?? I had JUST said that he was weak standing and needed assistance. Not to mention I am working in the ER with new patients coming in left and right.

Hi, so if a patient has a PT/OT consult in, why is the therapist asking me to get the patient up to ambulate and then report back to them? Is that not their literally job and training?? Seems like no one wants to do their jobs. I’m happy to be enlightened about this if I’m wrong.

@ModerateFERN I’d like to think we are a team but it really just felt like laziness to me because they asked me for orthostatics to ensure the patient wouldn’t pass out on them which I was happy to do because it’s my job. After those were obtained, I relayed that he was definitely weak (1/2)

@CaseRNCutie I definitely hear what you are saying but also, how many times do us nurses receive orders that we feel are a waste of time? We still do it because it’s our jobs. We can’t just decide not to.

@CaseRNCutie I also came from a facility that probably over-ordered the consults. However, I have not seen that happen at my current facility which is a very small hospital. Also, I am in the ER so trying to ambulate a weak person can be cumbersome if we are busy
