Why the Privatization of IDBI Bank Concerns Thousands of Families.
Assurance on the Floor of Parliament Government Shareholding Never less than 51%.
Government employees dedicated their careers to a public institution. Privatizing without consulting employee associations breaks faith and creates widespread panic.
Questionable Management Record - Fairfax has not demonstrated significant operational success with CSB Bank. Handing over a massive institution like IDBI Bank risks asset-stripping and short-term profit-seeking at the cost of national financial stability.
Threat to 12,000 Affirmative-Action Employees: Nearly 12,000 SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and Differently-Abled employees face severe uncertainty regarding their job security and constitutional protections.
Profit Over Public Welfare: Privatization shifts the bank’s focus away from public service, rural lending, and financial inclusion toward purely private gains.

The United Forum of IDBI Officers and Employees has strongly opposed this move, calling it not just privatisation but also “foreignisation” of a strategically important Indian bank.
Concerns of employees:
IDBI Bank has turned around and is consistently profitable — public money and employee efforts revived it.
In 2003, Parliament was assured that the Government’s stake would not go below 51%. This decision goes against that assurance.
Risks to existing service conditions, pension benefits, and reservation policies for SC/ST/OBC employees.
Transfer of control of an institution that handles large public deposits and supports financial inclusion to a foreign entity.
Employees have announced a nationwide two-day hunger strike on 2 & 3 November 2026.
IDBI Bank belongs to the nation and its people — not for sale to foreign private interests.

After selling IDBI Bank, NITI Aayog has reportedly put Central Bank of India and Indian Overseas Bank up for sale. 🚨 🚨
Recently Modi government has sold IDBI Bank to Canada's Fairfax Financial Holdings group.
Now Modi government has also planned to sell the Central Bank of India and Overseas Bank. Every single PSU in the country is being sold, yet there is no outrage in the media and news channels.
