Kaja (Pakaja) is one of the old styles of Yoruba dressing forms from the times of old. It involves draping or throwing a larger piece of fabric over a two-piece already worn on the body and across the shoulder. Its general look is like that of a Toga. When a Yoruba man dresses this way, people would describe his dress style as, "ร pa kรกjร ". The act itself if 'kรกjร pรญpa'
As with most Yoruba clothing styles, Kaja can be Casual, functional or Ceremonial/Official. In Casual Kaja, adult Yoruba men would simply 'Pa kaja' and go about their daily businesses. It is not as common a sight these days, although it is a style that indeed exudes elegance and an aura of dignity. In Functional Kaja, the style is seen among a certain segment of Yoruba society such as the Awo, Ogboni, Olorisha Etc and people engaging in certain employments and professions.
Ceremonial Kaja is the most elaborate, the fabric used is the main distinctive feature. They are colourful and elaborate. As a ceremonial wear, Kaja can be worn by Kings, emissaries, ambassadors or people at outdoor functions.
The election that led to the defeat of Liberiaโs President Weah and the victory of Boakai is much more than just another election. The election was reportedly Credible, transparent, peaceful & without hesitation,George conceded & congratulated the winner, despite the slim margin of victory.Liberia has cast a light in a region nearly enveloped by the darkness of military coups, controversial elections & endless political hostilities.Liberian election is a lesson in civility and a message of hope.Liberia is the new moral compass of the subregion.Liberia rose from the ashes and now becoming a tree of political tolerance and decency in West Africa. There was a time we rescued and saved Liberians from themselves and now they are doing same to us.
Congratulations to Joseph Boakai for the victory and kudos to the Outgoing President George for demonstration of such unwavering act of statesmanship,Sportsmanship and patriotism.
George should be in the league of ex Nigeriaโs President GEJ and I hope history and posterity will be kind to him.
