Building Konstrukt — Uber for construction equipment in Kenya.
Background: Kenyan operator. Run https://t.co/ROQ3XyDLf7, an engineering firm that’s built telecom and power infrastructure across East Africa for a decade. Spent ten years watching contractors lose three days to find an excavator while plant owners’ machines sat idle 40% of the week. Realised the WhatsApp-and-cash-envelope economy underneath every road, tower, and housing project in Africa is a $40B market hiding in plain sight.
Live at https://t.co/2LfumbGowK. Two-sided marketplace, M-Pesa/ escrow, NCA-verified operators, automatic KRA tax compliance. Built and shipped end-to-end in three weeks.
I don’t have a Stanford degree or a famous co-founder. What I have is ten years of relationships with the people on both sides of this market and the operational scars to know exactly why it’s broken.
Would love your DM.

KRA's recent tax collection measures are causing significant distress among individuals, particularly contractors working for county and national governments. The situation is alarming, as it has led to feelings of depression and even suicide.
Once a taxpayer issues a tax invoice, creating a traceable obligation to pay, KRA should not block their PIN due to delayed payments. Additionally, issuing an agency notice against a taxpayer's account should be a last resort. It is unreasonable to block taxpayers from receiving payments when the government itself has delayed in making those payments. This approach appears predatory, represents a massive abuse of power, and breaches Kenya's constitutional provisions on good governance.
@Alfayaz11 the gabbage being dumped behind Unga House and Alchemist in Westlands is alarming. Garbage piling everyday @HonMosiria please do something about this
No amount of threats will make Banks deliver cheaper loans, only capital markets reforms can…
1. Our financing mkts suffer from bank dominance… 99% of loans from banks compared to say only 40% from banks for developed mkts.
2. Because of bank dominance, there are no alternatives, that is why our Kenyan banks are the most profitable in the world at 25% returns compared to 15% global average.
3. It does not matter how much President, government, treasury and CBK threaten banks, it’s just talk.
4. The only way to bring down cost of loans is to stimulate our moribund capital mkts to grow and to start lending through specialty lenders.
Startups and Small Business is HARD. So many wheels. And many moving parts. But it’s fulfilling when you can get through the chaos. And slowly by slowly make a path.
Africa doubled new hydropower capacity in 2024, adding 4.5GW led by Tanzania’s 2,115MW Julius Nyerere project and Ethiopia’s 1,200MW from the GERD.
But over 63GW in approved projects remain stalled due to funding gaps, according to the International Hydropower Association.
