The number of people voluntarily leaving their jobs dropped by 151,000 in May, to 704,000, the lowest since November 2020.
This marks the second-largest monthly decline since 2020.
As a result, job leavers as a % of total employment fell 2 percentage points, to 9.8%, the lowest since May 2021.
Over the last 6 months, this percentage is down 4 points.
In the past, such a rapid decline has rarely occurred outside of recessions.
In other words, Americans are growing more cautious about changing jobs as hiring slows amid economic uncertainty.
The job market is deteriorating.
