For a long time, the structures in newsrooms often become complicated when the perpetrators are the gate keepers of the policies that are supposed to protect the victims.

Who is raping Uganda’s men?
The global survey conducted by WAN- IFRA Women in News, in conjunction with City St George’s University of London and BBC Media Action, found that in Uganda, more male journalists (9%) said they had been raped, compared to 4% of female journalists.
Worse still, 3% of the 89 male respondents in Uganda said they had been raped more than five times, compared to zero respondents out of 116 females.
These statistics left participants in shock as WAN-IFRA Women in News shared the Ugandan results, which, however, are not unique to Ugandan media houses.
Tanzania’s respondents reported 14% cases of raped males, compared to 12% cases among women; Rwanda reported 6% male journalists were raped in 2025 compared to 11% women; Somalia was the worst with 35% male rape cases compared to 32% women.

When covering protests, journalists must remain impartial. Reflecting on his time as a news reporter, Dick Nvule emphasizes that journalists should never take sides, neither with the rioters nor the police, but uphold their role as independent observers committed to reporting the facts.

I want to tell Ugandans that I have abit of an idea about the media terrain in Uganda and why the Ugandan State needs an independent media. President @KagutaMuseveni knows this right from 1969. Do not laugh at burning forest, you clueless Ugandans!!!
The conversation is getting closer.

When veteran journalist @WilliamsKato3 covered the aftermath of a fuel truck explosion in the 2000s, he witnessed bodies burnt beyond recognition. Years later, he shares the mental health impact of that assignment. A powerful lesson for newsrooms: journalists need support, not just assignments.

@UkweliAfrica Panel: While Ebola is serious, there is a view that govt trivialized information flow, through one line worded press releases, what is your view? Secondly aren't selfish capitalist behavior driving information flow to the media?
@UkweliAfrica Was the problem international media, or the sources they quoted? My opinion the sources lumped up the figures and therefore you can not blame the media
