Today, our ED delivered a powerful keynote at the High-Level #Feminist Convening by the Domestic Violence Act Coalition, urging us to refuse boxes, embrace the freedom to define our work & purpose on our own terms.

Together with the Women Pro Bono Initiative, we have officially filed a communication before The African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC) on behalf of adolescent girls who are survivors of sexual violence in Uganda.

The communication is challenging Uganda’s failure to protect and fulfil the rights of adolescents and survivors of sexual violence.

The case highlights barriers they face in accessing comprehensive reproductive health care services and information.

The case seeks to:

🔶Strengthen State accountability for sexual violence survivors
🔶Ensure adolescents access comprehensive reproductive health information and services, including abortion care.
🔶Advocate for removal of legal and policy barriers that limit access.

We close the week with a win for girls’ right to education.

A 16 year old girl who was expelled after becoming pregnant as a result of sexual abuse, has now been allowed to return to school.

In a session conducted by the Vice Chairperson of the Equal Opportunities Commission , we entered into a consent agreement with representatives of the school that guarantees her the chance to continue her studies and sit for her final examinations.

Our new report reveals how discriminatory laws fuel violence, stigma and exclusion.

To achieve true equality, we recommend that stakeholders:
✅Repeal all laws that criminalize or marginalize womxn and gender minorities.
✅Protect sexual and reproductive health rights, dignity and autonomy
✅Train justice actors on diversity and inclusion.
✅Build solidarity across movements to counter anti-gender narratives.
✅ Hold state institutions accountable to constitutional guarantees of equality.
