@ajlamesa I’m torn, I part because we need more social workers and teacher’s aides, and we require them to have degrees for this and then pay them very little. Perhaps a government financed program for certification would be a more sensible solution. Something focused on job training only.
@kevinnbass Although, it clearly can be seen as jury tampering with any potential future jury as there remains a serious possibility of a retrial. Definitely illegal, and post-facto intimidation may still be illegal as well depending on the jurisdiction.
@kevinnbass Well it’s past the point where the juror can be influenced, but this sets a deeply troubling precedent, and I am appalled that I know exactly which juror it was that held a different opinion.
@cjbanning@CatsuSama48189@realDailyWire But the skepticism runs deep, & is linked to viewing a man with lower earnings as also contributing less and running a greater risk of having to do both the earning & the housework, which then lowers the desire to marry. It’s more a bias than rule, w/ plenty of counter examples.
@cjbanning@CatsuSama48189@realDailyWire That explicitly, not really, but I often hear women express sentiments of skepticism of marrying men economically less accomplished than themselves. And I have once heard a beautiful and successful attorney state she’s looking for a man with even more money. I felt sad for her.
@dukekahanamoku@ryanjmccomb A lot will be degree, talent and drive/achievement are the other contributors, and also to be fair for many, bad luck. But the largest percent will be degree based. Not many science or comp sci majors are going to appear in that group. Plenty of English majors to be found.
@NateSilver538@Noahpinion Do you have a link or list of what the models sucked at compared to humans? I’m genuinely curious, I don’t know where to find such assessments.
@whsahhar@NateSilver538 Now this is an interesting observation! I would have supported this tactical change at minute 80, but not at 55’. Arguably Egypt SHOULD have done it, but these defensive walls break down over time as the attacking team get more looks. Switzerland doing it a man down made sense.
@tperkins1043@paulg There’re things as minimally consequential as the price of an item being marked incorrectly at a store, which you won’t catch without math literacy, to impactful ones like making decisions about why and how to vote, or responding to a child who asks why the grass is green.
@tperkins1043@paulg My answer is that there are a million tiny ways in everyday life that functional knowledge of the world and how it works informs your decisions and actions, most so tiny you would never take the time to consult, but unless you develop your brain you will miss.
@Brayden_1341@Beamer4Prezz@YahooSports Five days between matches, it’s pretty feasible, there aren’t THAT many red cards put out, and not that many people who need to be on a judge panel. The appeal is actually quite realistic and feasible.
@NateSilver538 I mean Germany was robbed of a goal, and the refs gave the Paraguayens extra chances to win, and they finally made good on one. I’ve rarely seen announcers so critical of a call. That Paraguayan goalie is really good, and Germany shouldn’t have missed the penalty kicks.
@danhauge@NateSilver538 Look, I’d give it to you if it wasn’t deeply common practice to have adopted & adjusted names for other countries in other languages. Turkey is actually FAR closer than most adjustments come, and they’re being hypocritical because they have Turkish-adjusted names for most states.
Now I can say whatever the heck I want about Wikipedia and not worry about being banned for it. Thing is, I never really did hold back. Similarly here.

@ajlamesa I’ve actually seen fairly convincing arguments that a pitbull’s bad behavior is closely tied to training and ownership. I probably favor placing extra limits on ownership before considering bans, to demonstrate competence and signing off on mandatory training sessions.
@NateSilver538 I have 100% said this many times over that seeding based on performance would be much better. I don’t understand why this isn’t the obvious choice, but if it’s some logistical/travel issue, at least predetermine the two halves and seed within each side of the draw??
The USMNT is serenaded by the crowd in Seattle with John Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads" after their 2-0 win over Australia.
USA is on to the Round of 32.

@ArashMarkazi I was flying back through Philly after going to SF for the Swiss match, and there was an early flight from Philly to New York offering $1,100 and then $1,300 and then $1,600 for people to take a later flight. 🤣 3/4 of my flights were offering money to take a later flight.
@meagankae@markcecchini I know at least two people who only book hotel rooms which have baths. It’s a personal preference thing, but as a parent with young children, I promise you a bath in a hotel is very appealing.
