After listening to Mr. McLeod’s lecture, I thought a lot about strategic communications and what would be the best way to change the attitudes of young people in America. I personally think that the best way would be thru social media compaigns #UWJ201
@sanjmuralidhara I agree with you completely. I believe that cancel culture only does negative things, and instead of demonizing people who are ignorant we should try to educate them to do better in the future. #UWJ201
@CoraSpychalla I think that to keep pace with the ever changing market companies should invest in young workers who can easily identify what the trends are. #UWJ201
@isabellae_xoxo Something I found interesting was that in my class last year, we starting saying “Chik Fil A” out loud around our phones to test a theory about ads. Shortly there after, me and my friend both saw Chik Fil A ads on Instagram. #UWJ201
@ZiebellTaylor I recently also got food poisoning from chipotle ! Around 6 or so years ago, I knew two friends who also got food poisoning after having chipotle #UWJ201
@Anders0nMattUW Yes. I am a big soccer fan and love to play. When I was young, I would only ask my parents for Lionel Messi’s cleats because I saw him wearing them in game and on advertisements. #UWJ201
@AlisonStecker I would hope that companies could realize the benefits of consulting social scientists, but based on the actions they have taken it seems as though it is unlikely. #UWJ201
The Elaboration Likelihood Model explains the Central and Peripheral Routes of persuasion. Which route do you feel is more effective generally, and for what types of products would you choose one route over another? #UWJ201
Shannon McGregor’s study was about the role of social media in public opinion. How much of a role do you think social media plays in public opinion, and should we use social media data to make conclusions about it? #UWJ201
@EstelleXiao1 I think the best way to do this is through fact checking and close reading. By doing so you should be able to filter out false information and find more reliable news sources. #UWJ201
@LaurenAria14 The hard part about getting all parts of the story would be that there could be so many, and many publications may not have the time or resources to do so. However, if this was a possibility I think it would be good because it would offer a more complete picture. #UWJ201
@lucmarchuw This is a very interesting question. I do believe we are caught in a spiral of media polarization, as tensions have never been higher in our country. I think we can fix social media for the sake of politics by focusing on accurate news coverage and civil debate. #UWJ201
@katieraynes12 A way to slow this polarization would be to have more conversations and engage in civil discourse. Studies have shown that just 15 minutes of civil debate and sharing of thought between members of opposite parties has decreased tension and increased understanding #UWJ201
How much influence do you think companies like Disney and Time Warner have over the media we consume daily? If you think they have great influence, do you think there should be anything done about it? #UWJ201
@carly_marsch I think that if a group of students was silenced by a private university that they, their parents, and greater society as a whole would condemn this in my opinion. In addition, it is possible that this may affect the discipline of their students because they feel ignored #UWJ201
@ellese_martin I think that the future of social media is only going to get worse. Technology is going to make more new innovative social media apps, which I believe may lead to these problems getting worse. #UWJ201
Professor Kulver spoke a lot about the first amendment and which types of speech were protected and which were not. How do you feel about our current hate speech laws? #UWJ201
@NotPieper Yes I do believe this to be true. I think that many media organizations focus too heavily on a few issues that are deemed the important ones while many others get left behind. Equal chances ! #UWJ201 #305
