They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Lest we forget

Up bright and early to do some media ahead of the National Remembrance Day Ceremony here at @AWMemorial. Such a privilege to be involved in such a special day all commemorating those who have fought in wars and peacekeeping, and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
Great to finish up the @AWMemorial's Staff History Course yesterday with a tour of our Mitchell storage facilities. Huge thanks to @Camros25 for leading the tour for us!
Join us in 2 weeks for the 2nd fall VSA colloquium with Rachel Caines, Historian in the #Military History Section of the Australian War Memorial. Rachel is a PhD candidate at the The Australian National University. Her research focuses on #Indigenous experiences of war- see below
"He pewhea ra te ahua o tenei iwi i haramai rawa nei i nga topito o te ao?" Incredible to see the Māori Contingent and NZ (Māori) Pioneer Battalion recieve battle honours for their role in the #FWW. "What manner of men" indeed.

The te reo text above is drawn from the sermon given by Chaplain Henare Te Wainohu to the Māori Contingent before their attack on Chunuk Bair. In it, he told them all others at Gallipoli would be thinking "What manner of men are these who have come from the ends of the earth?".
First day back at work after a period of leave, and out of the office to hear Julie Gough talk about her artistic practice and historical research at @ANUartdesign
Today marks the 110th anniversary of the day the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force (AN&MEF) landed on New Britain.
As a result of the action, six Australians from the AN&MEF were killed or died of wounds, and another four were wounded.
This wooden ventriloquist dummy named ‘Joey’ belonged to Gunner Thomas Alfred Hussey. In 1941, Hussey was taken prisoner of war by the Japanese and sent to Changi. He and his fellow POW’s constructed two iterations of ‘Joey’ which would feature in the Changi Concert Party.
