War Dog by @tompalmerauthor is THE Remembrance picture book of 2025. It's an honour to have been able to write a book topic article for it for this month's @TeachPrimary magazine. Gorgeous illustrations by @CarolinaRabei make it even more special.

We celebrated Chelsea Dog Day at @RHChelsea with some storytelling sessions of #WarDog with @tompalmerauthor! Tom (and Judy!) met lots of amazing people - and of course dogs!
Had the absolute pleasure of meeting and chatting with @tompalmerauthor . We even got a personal tour of the Royal Hospital Chelsea grounds! What a brilliant morning.
My class loved exploring similarities and differences between A Cat Called Waverley by @DebiGliori and War Dog by @tompalmerauthor and @CarolinaRabei. We talked about loyalty, courage, being away from who you love, and the relationship between humans and animals. It was joyous.
Please join me & illustrator @CarolinaRabei tomorrow evening (25 September) at 7 p.m. to chat, here on @X about our picture book, WAR DOG.
Hosted by @PrimarySchoolBC#PrimarySchoolBookClub it's a great chance to talk reading, writing and illustrating picture books for children.
If it's helpful to schools, below is the link to a year's worth of picturebook assembly suggestions that have a focus on empathy and inclusion. They're all books I've used and loved as a teacher. #edutwitter https://t.co/JBuWKFDAhP
With the new academic year approaching, this picturebook assembly overview might be useful to people. The suggested books cover themes around empathy, inclusion and diversity, and are all texts I've used in the classroom. Any shares appreciated. Link here: https://t.co/JBuWKFD2sh
This is me on BBC Breakfast last week trying to articulate that picture books are a great way to help children understand difficult subjects. Through shared reading with parents, teachers and librarians.

I'm pleased to have done a blog for @bbcbitesize. On five books about conflict for children that I think are outstanding. Including Rosemary Sutcliff, @balirai and others. You can read it here:

Happy publication day to War Dog by @tompalmerauthor and @CarolinaRabei from @scholasticuk🐶📚
Highly recommended for primary schools, perfect for making this subject accessible to a wide age range. Picture book non fiction at its best. Here's my review:
