If you are out for a walk along the South Esk in Midlothian, please keep an eye out for colour marked #Dippers.
These little beauties are part of my #PhD study population, and I'd love to hear where they've moved to after fledging!

Yesterday, I (un)officially became a Dr after passing my PhD viva at @StirBES! A huge thank you to @juliet_vickery and @dchap79 for a fantastic discussion, and to Phil Wookey for chairing!
It's been a wonderful (often chaotic 4.5 years) studying riverine birds and ecosystems, especially the opportunity to follow Dippers through 2 breeding seasons - with unparalleled knowledge and support from supervisors @NWillby, @KirstyJPark, @Jeremy_D_Wilson and @ScienceAndMaps!
I'm en route to give a talk to the SOC Borders branch about my PhD fieldwork on Dippers, passing by my study system while I crochet a scarf themed on the average rainfall the system received during said fieldwork π€π
πΏ Exciting news! π #EcoHacK (hands-on workshop on ecological sound recording analysis π) is back for its second edition at the beautiful @StirUni π΄σ §σ ’σ ³σ £σ ΄σ Ώ! Mark your calendars for the 9th, 10th, and 11th of October 2023. Stay tuned for more info towards the end of the summer!

The big question today is how on earth has a Dipper made it to #StKilda?!? First archipelago record this morning, just doing what Dippers do, buzzing up and down the burn in Abhainn Mhor π― @HebridesBirds@BirdGuides@N_T_S
I'm looking for study sites for a long-term study on the response of woodlands to deer reductions! I'll be working in Scotland (Highland region) and am looking for willing and interested partner landowners. Please reach out with any potential leads! #woodlands#deer#research
@Enor314@BTO_Scotland@ScottishBirding Gutted I missed your stall! I'm a huge fan of your artwork π
Are you planning on adding the Dipper design to a camping mug?
Had a wonderful time at the Scottish Birdwatchers Conference today, presenting #Dipper facts, stories from monitoring them during my #PhD, and some of the issues they face during the breeding season! π€
Fantastic job organising @ScottishBirding@BTO_Scotland!

Work Hard, Play Hard
This week some of our later year PhDs have been on a writing retreat to focus on finishing manuscripts and theses. They've also enjoyed activities provided by @UoE_Firbush
