Been working on getting @Newsela certified before the school year starts! First text set complete if anyone is teaching historical fiction in the fall https://t.co/VcosCcDStT
To @Kathari89882323's point, there are some limits to the "steal everything" mentality, even if we are doing it to enhance our students' learning. This flow chart from @artclasswithLMJ could help us understand the process. #DHfall2019#fairuse
To add to @ReeseBates1, even if you have the tech, should you alwasy use it? The questions in the module were a helpful test for #lessonplanning. For example, drawing a comic on paper is easier than drawing on a laptop, even if it's still "lower tech." #DHfall2019#edtech
One of the sample ELA lessons reinforces @AdamPBarger's point that teachers using tech tools always need a Plan B. Sometimes tech doesn't work or students have trouble using it, and pencil and paper may need to come to the rescue! #DHfall2019#edtech
Having a non-tech Plan B:
@eleanor_oats and I definitely could have used the LATs for comic creation, like @PixtonEDU, for our summer session unit plan on graphic novels. Would be helpful for students (like me) who don't think they can draw! #DHfall2019
@Neil_Selwyn says that "technology-related changes to education have abounded at a superficial level," (p. 19) and I see that reflected in my placement. #edtech is used as a placeholder for something analog rather than in a truly innovative way. Room for growth! #DHfall2019
Bates says that part of digital learning is being flexible to accomodate students' schedules. Would being available all the time for these varied schedules cause more burnout for teachers? The team approach may be necessary to avoid this #DHfall2019#onlinelearning#Collaboration
Since my placement has college pennants all over the hallways and in classrooms, I wonder how many of my students feel marginalized the way those in Staley and Freeman (2017) did. Even in middle school, is the push for college detrimental? #DHfall2019#future#careerdevelopment
UDL 5.2 says we should allow students to use spell checkers and grammar tools, but as I will consider in my #grammarly tech tool demo, will students become dependent on them? Do the benefits for ELLs/students who struggle to write outweigh this cost? #DHfall2019
Bates says we need to teach new skills needed in the modern workforce, and with English, we see the replacement of traditional lit with nonfiction texts in state curriculums. But does cutting novels leave a gap of its own? Especially in creating lifelong readers? #DHfall2019
