"I’m very excited to share with you all the promo of 'Our Africa by Merck Foundation,' a TV program which I have conceptualized, directed, and produced. Education systems can no longer expect learners to adapt to rigid structures. Systems themselves must become flexible.

In Nigeria today, for too many children, going to school requires courage.
Across the country, attacks on schools and the abduction of students have turned places of learning into places of fear. Parents are forced to make impossible decisions, weighing the value of education against the safety of their children. For many families, especially in underserved and conflict-affected communities, that fear is enough to keep a child out of school entirely.
This is what barriers to education look like.
They are not always a lack of classrooms or learning materials. Sometimes, they are the fear that a child may not make it home.
That is why the work cannot stop.
At AREAi, we believe every child has the right to learn in a safe and supportive environment. Every programme we implement, every community we engage, and every conversation we contribute to is driven by a simple conviction: no child should have to choose between education and safety.
Nigeria’s children deserve classrooms, not crisis.
They deserve learning, not fear.
They deserve opportunities, not uncertainty.
Access to education is not a privilege reserved for a few. It is a fundamental right for every child, everywhere.
And until that right becomes a reality for all, we will continue to advocate, act, and stand with the communities that need it most.

Every parent wants the best for their child, but harmful gender norms, poverty, and deep-rooted beliefs can stand in the way of girls.
Through parent engagement workshops across India and Kenya, we’re working with families and communities to change that — helping parents support their daughters’ education, dreams, and aspirations, one conversation at a time.
Because when families rise, girls rise too.
This #GlobalDayofParents, stay tuned for #FamiliesThatRise…a campaign sharing the real voices of parents, community mobilizers, and the people working every day to help girls stay in school.
