Les gars, si votre femme ou votre copine veut faire les soldes avec vous et quâelle vous dit « Viens, on va acheter des actions de la tech elles sont en promo », câest clairement la bonne.
Ăpousez-la.
On market crashes like today, I'm reminded of a piece of advice I got from a CIO mentor that traded during the dotcom and 08 crashes and lived to tell the tale.
He said: "Treat investing the same way you treat life."
That's all. It has stuck with me for many years because after filling in the blanks, you're forced to become "better" in both portfolio management and life management. It's uncanny how correlated they are.
Strip either one down and you're left with the same raw materials: time and uncertainty.
Every investment gives up something certain today for something uncertain tomorrow. So does nearly everything that matters in life. Love, learning, raising a child, starting a new job. Anything.
Both reward patience, but only after testing it.
You can't generate performance without risking losses, the same way you can't love without risking grief.
But fundamentally, the first rule of portfolio and life management is survival.
You can come back from most losses, but not from the one that takes you out of the game.
It's always darkest before the dawn.
