Transcript of the powerful speech that was made on behalf of a sex worker as they did not feel safe enough to speak for themselves. This is why we say #nocopsatpride - 🧵
1) At 05:20hrs this morning, approximately 80 Gardai arrived at Ionad Seán Heuston. Several homeless were arrested and will be before the high courts this morning for breaching a court order prohibiting them from seeking shelter in an abandoned warehouse.
The mainstream gays partied passed us, which is not a bad analogy for how those pushing for Hate Crime Legislation won’t be the ones that they will use it against. Never give the State more powers; their interests are at odds with ours. We need to build community in solidarity.
This year, Gardaí repressed & attacked us at Radical Pride; a group of marginalised and racialised queers; for opposing the corporatisation of pride & housing crisis. They used any laws against us to shut us down & you can be sure that would include Hate Crime Legislation too.
Happy #PrideMonth2021 all! This year, to honour the radical roots of Pride, we are launching a campaign against the Criminal Justice (Hate Crime Bill) 2021. Thread below on why MERJ, as a group of queer migrants and ethnic minorities, is against hate crime laws.

They would say that we are being hateful towards the Gardaí, the landlords, the corporations, & never was that more clear than when they were beating us up at Pride. Please take the time to read some of the work that one of our member groups has put together on this.
