I’ve been watching the thoughtful presentation by my senior brother @OOtunnu_ as he goes for the top job at the UN, and it really got me thinking, how many highly qualified, competent Ugandans remain underutilised simply because they disagreed with government and were quickly labelled ‘enemies of the state’? We all know a few brilliant people who could have added so much more to this country if petty politics hadn’t gotten in the way. We’ve struggled with many things as a country, but lack of knowledge shouldn’t be one of them. Amb. Otunnu’s candidacy feels like it could be a quiet moment of soul searching, an invitation of those in power to look beyond political labels and finally utilise the full potential of our people, regardless of affiliation. There’s still a long road ahead of course, but for now, I simply wish my senior the best.
For some days, she looked like she wanted to tell me something but held back. Then she came and sat herself by my side, and started small talk as usual. A few minutes into the chat, looking the other side, she said (words paraphrased) in an unusual low reflective voice: “daddy, although you don’t tell me, I hear about everything. I know what has been happening. I know what you’re going through, and I know why. I am proud of you, for choosing to speak for suffering people. I fear to lose you, and I know I will. But it makes me happy that people talk good about you, and my teachers keep praising you and telling me to be like you.”
Tears started forming in both our eyes, I held her arms, and we found ourselves laughing, when I said a cartoon of her crying would be a funny one.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our Law student, Nankandwe Patricia, who was due to graduate this October.
Patricia tragically lost her life in an accident while traveling back from Gulu, yesterday 20th August, 2026.
She will be remembered for her warm smile, gentle spirit and the light she brought into the lives of those around her. A smile that could light up a room at a glance; a candle flame suddenly blown away by the wind.
We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, classmates, and the entire university community.
May Her Soul Rest in Peace
