Gaza has endured 21 months of war, with over 56,000 Palestinians killed - over a year and a half of Iran pressuring Hamas to reject a ceasefire with Israel.

And yet, after just 12 days of direct confrontation with Israel, Iran accepted a ceasefire.

Iran’s revolutionary brand long rested on waving the Palestinian flag. But its loyalty was always transactional, not rooted in solidarity.

Tehran channels roughly $70 million a year to Hamas - enough to buy political leverage, but a pittance compared to the cost borne by Gazan civilians.
