My first big report for the new Substack is now live. It's a two-year investigation into the horrific wrongful conviction of an intellectually disabled man in Arkansas.
No paywall, so I hope you'll check it out.

Pretty simple story. The Post was primed to get a massive influx of subscribers and interest in the Trump 2 era — and they've produced major scoops consistently in this period — and then something very obvious stopped it all from happening.
This interview, which is also available to listen to as a podcast, provides a useful overview of some of the dangerous trends we’ve been seeing in recent months regarding federalization and militarization of state and local police functions. https://t.co/yWDXDwD7mZ
This is a very important article to read. You should share it with five people you know today and discuss together what it means. It’s by @radleybalko https://t.co/SSF2ZnFdkL
Insane story from @radleybalko about agents showing up at a lawyer's home to intimidate him about representing immigrants. They appear to have cut his wifi to turn off his ring cam recording. As Radley notes, it fits with a pattern of immigration attorney intimidation.
The best writer in America on criminal justice issues is @radleybalko But today he turns his attention to Senator Bill Kennedy's amazingly cowardly vote for RFK Jr, and the consequences of said vote. It is a damning piece & I urge you all to read it

@rlevatter@MarkPaoletta@RandyEBarnett I really have no interest in continuing to debate this. If you can’t see the threat by now, you aren’t going to. And citing an ex Trump official who represented Ginni Thomas before the 1/6 committee and participated in some of Trump’s worst bullshit isn’t persuasive.
Junk science is about to put a person to death. Robert Roberson is set to be executed by the state of Texas, but the "shaken baby syndrome" that got him convicted of murder is based on dubious science. https://t.co/0sNkUcztV4 @MSNBC@radleybalko@TexDefender@TCADPdotORG@WTIUSA
Policing tactics under scrutiny🔎

lol. When defending himself against my accusation that he made claims unsupported by evidence, he made new claims unsupported by evidence. For example, his claim that in the forensic community, "homicide" merely means "other people were involved in a very broad sense" is completely false.

New from me: Less than 5 percent of DA's offices have a unit tasked with seeking out wrongful convictions. I spoke with Marissa Bluestine of the Quattrone Center about what these units do well, what they could do better, and the obstacles they face.

Despite (or because of) their success, CIUs now get pushback from Republican attorneys general, police departments who don't like to see their incompetence/corruption exposed, and city officials who fear the lawsuits wrought by exonerations.
