Five years ago today, 9 black churchgoers were slaughtered by a white supremacist in Charleston, S.C.

After the killings, a black woman, @BreeNewsome, scaled the flagpole of the South Carolina State House and removed the Confederate battle flag from it.

On May 10, 1906, Charles Scott, a candidate for governor who often campaigned in his Confederate uniform, gave the speech dedicating a new Confederate monument at @OleMissRebels.
