@brucemcconachie Was up that way a few weeks ago and walked past it. Looked great and good value with the Sunday rate. Will definitely play on my next trip north. Have you played Covesea links? I thought it was excellent.
Simmental bull for sale. Finished his duties but still has plenty in the tank. 6 years old, easy calving and breeding well. Moving him on as too many of his daughters now in the herd.
@bankhousefarm01 Would we take an awful March early April if we knew things were going to grow like this in late April / may? ๐ค some difference to the countryside in 4 weeks!
@DouglasChristi9@BalbirnieFarm@howemill Incremental changes I suppose. But then a shift may also help tighten up the calving. Itโs been quick for me this year so calving interval still about 365 days. Although the last few stragglers will alter that a bit.
@BalbirnieFarm@DouglasChristi9@howemill 4-5 inches of snow here yesterday up at the ewes. It didnโt melt very quickly either. Lambing still about a week away. Shifted calving date by 2 weeks this year to 10/3 but could go later if this is what we get. No cattle out yetโฆ.
@DuncanMillerr@howemill@ThrimbyFarms Looks good! Planning something similar, shifting some bales to next door for bale grazing. Slightly concerned about vermin for the main stack.
@ClynelishFarm@beefshorthorn This happened to me two weeks ago, cow lost both her twins and is rearing a spare. Passports already here and as you say no way to record loss (except possibly the collection of dead calves)
@WhitriggsStuart Makes sense vaccinating at this stage although I was under the impression they are ideally vaccinated empty so post calving. Have you found any down sides of doing them before?
@RomanyHerefords Thanks. Yes Iโve had success with a low rate of brassicas through it however this years field was in forage crop a couple of years back so left them out. Generally undersow with a low rate an Italian rye grass for an early bite.
@CammockSalers@bankhousefarm01@EdinvaleFarm I know the big red portequip cow isnโt very popular on Twitter but it has kept calves right this autumn for me. Heifer calves weaned and housed last week in big form. They will now be fed a modest ration until turnout on 1st March.
@DouglasChristi9 Looks like weโve switched positions. Terrible go last year for me but much improved this spring. Finished in April for the first time. Great thing about farming is that you get to try again next year.
