Love Bombing usually isn’t targeted manipulation but another form of one of the most common human traits: The act of passionately claiming you’re gonna do something that you ideally want to do, in a higher state, but not being able to follow through. The novel you never wrote or the weight you never lost all began with an excitable promise to yourself in a state where you felt more capable than your day-to-day tempo and habits allowed. It is made of the same stuff. We’re all full of various abandoned ideas and hopes, big and small, from when our self caught up to us after the high of a charged fantasy. We fail at going after things we want every day.

Much like the pain of stopping short of any personal goal, the “Love Bomber” resents themselves for having yet another moment of fantasy-over-reality, a moment of no follow-through, Weakness and Failure even. Any coldness, even meanness following what was once Hopeful and Joyful is simply an expression of that internal shame and disappointment. They are faced again with evidence of their own lack-of-ability, lack-of-vision, but this time with a stark witness to their latest Failure.
