The flip side of micro aggressions, micro affirmations. Not just bias against, but bias for. It is interesting to consider the role schools and teachers might play in white students racial ethnic socialisation. https://t.co/tdaIII2lCv
“When Pākehā understand how their culture works & how our colonial history forms our present, they are able to work w Māori in a way that is empathetic and innovative.”

“Māori and other Indigenous peoples aren’t born genetically poor nor collectively dysfunctional. Instead, it has been the dispossession through colonisation that has created the deprivation and that has destroyed the cohesion of once strong family units.” Moana Jackson
If your contribution to the breath taking abuse of child uplifts by Oranga Tamariki is "But it's not racist" - perhaps you should sit this one out. Maori have been complaining about losing their children to the State since the 1940s - this obscenity isn't new
Treaty Education is long overdue in both the Ministry of Education and in schools. Here are the resources I recommend for schools:

“I think some of it is well-meaning and paternalistic stuff. But it’s racism nevertheless. So it doesn’t matter whether it’s malicious or accidental or just ignorant racism. It’s still racism. And the outcome is just the same.” — Chester Borrows

@hamilton_humans Yes, I do think schools need to consider carefully why, how, what and when they assess. It often seems as though it has little to do with the child, their learning success and their wellbeing. IMO there is way too much assessing in schools and not enough meaningful learning.
@AlisonCleary It says not Te Kotahitanga 2.0 - has been worked on with Mere Berryman though... Let's just hope it's funded and facilitated well. Has lots of potential. The right people will be key (as was true with Te Kotahitanga).
"We owe it to our community to do whatever it takes to bring about an equitable world" - another fabulous post from @NonprofitAF. Let's answer this call.
ReMāorification rather than decolonisation...one centers Māori, the other asks us to work to fix the white spaces often in the face of strong reluctance to make any significant shifts.
"But indigenous people do not need to be the saviours of entire organisations seeking redemption but which won’t truly shift radically to release power to the Other." Awesome stuff from @PuawaiCairns. Now I need to rethink my work week :) https://t.co/jclBGA0euM
