After Many Birthdays Behind Bars, This Year Narges Mohammadi Marks 53rd Birthday Out of Prison

Today, April 21, Narges Mohammadi turns 53—marking her birthday outside prison walls for the first time in years, after a temporary suspension of her sentence was granted following a critical surgery in late 2024.

Mohammadi was granted a 21-day sentence suspension on December 4, 2024. She was transferred home with an ambulance to recover, but since then, Iranian authorities have repeatedly ordered her return to prison—most recently on February 28, 2025.

Despite the mounting pressure—including harassment of friends and fellow activists—Mohammadi remains out of prison in an act of civil disobedience, refusing to legitimize the unjust actions of the regime.

On her birthday, we at the Narges Foundation envision a future where no activist ever has to endure the inside of a prison again. As we celebrate her presence outside of prison today, we stand in memory of the many birthdays she spent behind bars—and in solidarity with those who are still denied that freedom.

On the evening of March 14, 2025, Narges Mohammadi along with a group of civil and human rights activists, visited singer Mehdi Yarrahi in Tehran. Yarrahi, known for his song encouraging women to remove their hijabs, was recently lashed 74 times for supporting the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement.

"Whips and prisons cannot silence or isolate a beloved and well-known artist. On the contrary, they only make him stronger, amplify his voice, and deepen his connection with the protesting people.

Mehdi Yarrahi is one of those artists who stands with the people of Iran, singing for them and paying the price not only through the deprivation of his art but also through imprisonment and lashes.

He became the voice of the people in the powerful "Women, Life, Freedom" movement. His songs, alongside those of other protesting artists, echoed from the throats of protesters, the imprisoned, and those in captivity, with the cry "In your name, which is our code word," becoming a rallying call for the rebels, while the city sang the anthem of women, life, and freedom.

In protest against the repression of female singers and in solidarity with them, he sacrificed his career—what was rightfully his.

On Friday, March 14th, a group of civil activists, mothers seeking justice, journalists, lawyers, student and labor activists, gathered in Tehran to meet with Mehdi Yarrahi, standing together to strengthen our solidarity and support for him.

We will stand united."

Fariba Kamalabadi in Her 14th Year of Imprisonment

Baha’is have always been oppressed by the Islamic Republic. They have witnessed and endured torture, solitary confinement, imprisonment, confiscation of their property, denial of education and employment, executions, and even murder.

Among them, Fariba Kamalabadi and Mahvash Shahriari have suffered solitary confinement, psychological and even physical torture, the confiscation of their belongings, expulsion, and deprivation of education. They have endured endless and escalating suffering and remain under the blade of religious tyranny, whose misogynistic nature has been particularly evident in its treatment of these two women and other Baha’i women over the years.

In memory of my imprisoned Baha’i cellmate, Fariba Kamalabadi, we visited her home yesterday. Mr. Taefi spoke of her resilience, and we spoke of her patience. It was during their fasting period.

Hoping for the freedom of all political and religious prisoners.

🚩 گردهمایی پرشور فعالان اجتماعی در استقبال از "هشت مارس" در تهران

جمعی از فعالین ندای زنان ایران به همراه بیش از ۷۰ نفر از فعالین کارگری ، معلمان ، بازنشستگان ، نویسندگان ، پرستاران ، خانواده های دادخواه و فعالین مدنی و دانشجویی مراسم هشت مارس ، روز جهانی زن را برگزار کردند.

این مراسم که چهره های شاخص جنبشهای اعتراضی و فعالین اجتماعی در آن  حضور داشتند با یاد #مهسا_امینی و دیگر جانباختگان راه آزادی ،  قرائت پیام ها و هم خوانی آهنگهایی  به یاد #نیکا_شاکرمی  #حدیث_نجفی و #حمیدرضاروحی و به یاد همه جانباختگان #انقلاب_ژینا ، آواز زنان و همچنین بخش شاد موزیک و رقص گروهی همراه بود.

پیام ها و صحبت های حضار نکات مشترکی با محوریت موارد ذیل  وجود داشت :

_لغو آپارتاید جنسیتی

_مخالفت با اعدام و لغو همه احکام اعدام از جمله احکام #شریفه_محمدی #پخشان_عزیزی #وریشه_مرادی و همه کسانی که زیر تیغ اعدام هستند.

_اعتراض به فقر ، تبعیض و محرومیت از معیشت ، منزلت به عنوان درد مشترک همگان

_لغو همه قوانین ضد زن

_پایان دادن به قتل تحت عنوان ناموس و ازدواج کودکان به عنوان جنایت های قانونی

_آزادی همه زندانیان سیاسی

_دادخواهی از جانباختگان راه آزادی

این مراسم با محوربت شعار " زن زندگی آزادی " و تاکید حضار بر اتحاد همه عرصه های مبارزاتی برای ساختن یک زندگی بهتر به پایان رسید.

Women's Rights Gathering in Tehran on March 2 ahead of International Women's Rights Day

Today On March 2, 2025, Narges Mohammadi, alongside activists from "Nedaye Zanan Iran" and over 70 labor activists, teachers, retirees, writers, nurses, grieving families, and civil and student activists, gathered in Tehran to mark Women’s Rights ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8.

The event, attended by prominent figures from Iran’s protest movements, civil society, and women’s and human rights activism, honored the memory of Mahsa Amini and all those who lost their lives in the struggle for freedom. Participants chanted slogans, sang protest songs, and danced in defiance, paying tribute to Nika Shakarami, Hadis Najafi, Hamidreza Rouhi, and others killed in recent uprisings. The gathering served as both an act of resistance and a remembrance of those who sacrificed their lives for justice.

The speeches and statements shared by participants focused on common demands:

Ending Gender Apartheid : Criminalization of Gender Apartheid as a crime against humanity.
Ending executions in Iran and the repeal of all death sentences, including those of Sharifeh Mohammadi, Pakhshan Azizi, and Varisheh Moradi, as well as all others facing execution in the country.
Protest against poverty, discrimination, and the denial of a dignified life for all Iranians.
Repeal of all laws that discriminate against women and their rights.
An end to so-called 'honor killings,' femicide, and child marriage, recognized as state-sanctioned violence.
Freedom for all political prisoners.
Justice for those killed in the fight for freedom and their families.

The gathering concluded with the powerful slogan "Woman, Life, Freedom," emphasizing solidarity with all women, people, and activists in the fight for justice, equality, and a better future.

«جمهوری اسلامی، اساساً رژیمی غیر پاسخگوست و ظرفیتِ دموکراسی، آزادی و برابری را ندارد. رژیمی اصلاح‌ناپذیر و افزون بر آن رژیمی ناکارآمد است.در چنین وضعیت و شرایطی، مردم ایران بر اساس تجاربِ تاریخی و تلاش‌های بی‌وقفه و گسترده مبارزان طی ۴۶ سال، اکنون خواهانِ گذار از استبداد به دموکراسی هستند. یعنی گذار از جمهوری اسلامی. چرا که جمهوری اسلامی مظهرِ استبداد و یکی از موانعِ اصلیِ دستیابی مردم به دموکراسی است.

مدتی پیش مطلع شدم ماموران وزارت اطلاعات، برای کنترل رفت و آمدهایم، با نصب تجهیزات برای شنود و کنترل، به دوربین‌های مداربسته (تحت‌ شبکه) مجتمع محل سکونتم دسترسی گرفته‌اند. با توجه به این‌که پس از اعلام عمومی، مأموران حکومت از جمع‌آوری تجهیزات نصب‌شده و قطع دسترسی‌هایی که برای جاسوسی و نقض حریم خصوصی نصب کرده بودند، خودداری کردند، همان‌گونه که اعلام کرده بودم، امروز شخصا اقدام به قطع دسترسی‌ها و جمع‌آوری تجهیزات کردم.
در این میان، به سیم‌کارتی برخوردم که تاکنون آن را ندیده بودم. «تاراسل» که گویا به نهادها و افراد خاص، سرویس‌های ویژه‌ای ارائه می‌دهد.

نصب این تجهیزات، حتی بر اساس قوانین حکومت نیز جرم است و جاسوسی و نقض حریم خصوصی شهروندان به شمار می‌آید. اجازه نمی‌دهم از من جاسوسی کنید، حریم خصوصی‌ام را نقض کنید و بیش از این آزارم دهید. این اقدامات بی‌پاسخ نخواهد ماند، پیش از این نیز گفتم آزموده را آزمودن خطاست.

تصاویر مربوط به مودم‌های تی‌دی‌ال‌تی نصب‌شده بر روی دی‌وی‌آر دوربین‌های مداربسته و سیم‌کارت‌های اپراتوری به نام «تاراسل» است.
